Christmas Plus One

I really hope everyone has been enjoying the Holidays so far . . . I know I have been. For some, it’s back to work today. For others . . . these are the days that memories are made.

Our Canadian friends to the north celebrate Boxing Day today. A tradition where extra presents are “boxed-up” and given to the less fortunate. I always think that is a nice holiday message.

Down here in the Southeast, there is still a lot to celebrate as many resorts are reporting packed-powder and groomed conditions. More and more terrain is being opened up, and today might just be the pick day of the week as the dreaded 4 letter word . . . r–n comes back into the forecast as early as tomorrow morning.

VA has been been working hard and it pays off . . .

Wintergreen: Open until 9pm tonight, with 12 runs and 4 lifts open. A nice (heartfelt) message from Wintergreen today:

A Little Bit Of Luck

Our snow team has been wanting to give all our guests a great Christmas present and they are ready to deliver! Yes, it’s true, Highlands will open today. It might not be first thing, but it will definitely open today.

How did it happen? Yes, there is some luck, but it’s mostly hard work, building the base little by little; not giving up when the weather doesn’t cooperate; making smart decisions and being ready at a moment’s notice to work the system to its fullest. We are proud of our snow team, the expertise they have, and their willingness to go the extra mile even working during the holiday. Thank you!

Now get out and enjoy the new terrain!

Massanutten: Looks like a fabulous day at Massanutten today. “Sunny with highs near 40. We’ll be skiing and riding on all 1,110′ of vertical drop with 6 trails for all levels of ability and we’ll be open through Jan 1 from 9:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Snowmaking will continue this morning as temperatures allow.” In addition, SNOW TUBING is SOLD OUT for TODAY.

Bryce: Back to regular operating hours . . . (9am to 5pm). A chilly start to the morning @ 23°, but it is going to warm up quite nicely. Bryce has 7 runs and 3 lifts open today.

NC is in the midst of some Holiday Cheer

Appalachian Ski Mountain: Open until MIDNIGHT! December 26 through December 30th, App runs their Midnight Blast Holiday Sessions, for all the night owls . . . what a Hoot! App has 10 runs and 4 lifts open today.

Beech Mountain: Beech is cranking up the lifts as they ramp up to 7 (out of 8) lifts spinning. #noliftlines at Beech today!

First Chair at Beech

Cataloochee: Back to regular holiday hours . . . open until 10pm tonight. They have 14 runs and all 5 lifts operating today. A shout out to the snowmaking crew as CAT has built up to an 80″ base in some areas.

Sapphire Valley: Sapphire also back to regular hours . . . 9am to 8pm. Snow Tubing is open from 10am to 6pm. Sapphire also offers a Winter Zipline called The Vordach. Flight times are 10am and 1pm.

Wolf Ridge: Re-opens today from 9am to 10pm with 4 runs and 3 lifts. Wolf just opened their tubing runs for the year, at the base of the mountain. Gotta love their tag line today . . . “Christmas Plus One”

Wisp is breaking out the big guns

Wisp: Currently 19° . . . Open until 9pm, tonight, with 12 runs and 7 lifts. Wisp is cranking out the snow as they plan to open “(sooner than later) Little dipper, Big dipper, Aces, Ridge Run, Over the Edge, and Whip Saw.  Bases are growing steadily on these trails as snowguns run at full force.  In addition, we hope you will join us at our new restaurant, Alpine Pasta House, this Thursday through Sunday for a little taste of hearty Italian.”

WV has been in the snowbelt . . . Temps are primed for snowmaking

Canaan Valley: 14 trails (and counting), “including Timber Trail, Valley Vista, and Upper Spruce from the top of the mountain, with snowmaking happening on Meadows 1, Easy Does It, B Slope, and Weiss Way In.  Snowmaking operations are ongoing this morning and will continue for as long as weather permits, with cold temperatures in the forecast.  Our tube park and ice skating rink will also operate extended hours for the holiday week.  Winter is rocking here at the resort!”

A white day after Christmas at Canaan

Snowshoe: Last night Snowshoe reported 0.5″ of snow. Today, Snowshoe is open on 179 acres with 44 runs and 13 lifts.

“Hope everyone had a great Christmas here on the island in the sky!

It’s shaping up to be a beautiful day with primo conditions. Our snowmakers have been working hard at it, 24/7 to create an epic experience. Make sure you jet over to Silver Creek to ride the Flying Eagle lift! It will be open 9AM-9PM.”

That’s all for today.
