And then, there were two.

Cataloochee joins Sugar Mountain among the ranks of the open resorts today as they kick off the 2020-21 season to cap off what has been a whirlwind week.

Cataloochee (who is featured in today’s featured image) is opening with an 8-18″ base and playing on five slopes including Rock Island Run, Lower Omigosh, Beginner’s Luck, Easy Way, and the Rabbit Hill.

Those five trails are being serviced by three lifts today.

Over at Sugar, they are featuring the same lineup as yesterday with five trails and two lifts open for play.

Both resorts are reporting granular surfaces and open for day sessions only today. One quick note from Cataloochee is that they will not be offering any food or beverage service today.

Kenny was out at Sugar yesterday and will be posting some more content throughout the day today from his adventures.

Snowmaking has taken a bit of a pause across the region as temperatures stayed well above freezing in most locations. This morning’s forecast shows some potential overnight snowmaking windows next week so we will have to cross our fingers and hope those pan out.

Snowshoe posted a great video showcasing the results of this week’s snowmaking.

We also received news of a set opening date for Canaan Valley yesterday. The Davis, WV resort is set to open on Dec. 12 (weather permitting) – which has been their traditional opening week the past few years.

Another cool thing we saw yesterday came from the Appalachian State football team as they showcased their icy white uniforms for Saturday’s game.

The video was filmed atop Beech Mountain earlier this week near the 5506′ Skybar. Great uniforms and an even better video.

That will do it for today, but until next, #ThinkSnow!
