Good morning and hello to all the snow lovers out there! This is my first morning report and I am looking forward to providing you guys with articles and other tidbits of information that will hopefully keep you entertained on a daily basis. I’m pretty stoked to be doing this, as I have been a frequent visitor and fan of the site for about four years now. I read the front page article every morning and to be the one writing it now is just awesome! My messageboard name is theKENDOG for those who don’t know. If you see me on the slopes sometime feel free to say hey. You can’t miss me, I’m usually the guy with a camera on his head.

On to business now. This weekend is looking like a perfect time to get some turns in if you haven’t already this season. After a week of natural snowfall coupled with around the clock snowmaking, blue skies and warmer temps are what we can look forward to. It looks like this may be a continuing theme for the next few weeks as the weather pattern is undergoing a significant change. Throughout the fall we heard of winter forecasts calling for mild, dry weather due to La Nina. It looks like that is about to finally happen as the Southeast is going to be under the control of high pressure for a while. No worries though, the ski areas have seen an abundance of natural snowfall in December and January. Combine that with the impressive snowmaking operations at each of the resorts and there is PLENTY of snow to go around. Just take one look at the base depths across the region if you don’t believe me. I’ll be on the slopes myself this weekend and I’m looking forward to my first hoody day of the season. Check out Brad Panovich’s weekend forecast here for more information.

<<Beech Mountain this morning. Expect conditions like this all weekend.

Here’s a look at the resorts…

Appalachian Ski Mountain – 27°- Open today on all 12 slopes. After a few days of snowmaking on AppalJack, that terrain park has been rebuilt and is now open again. Fresh Friday #3 is going down tonight there and here is what they have to say about it.

Get ready for Fresh Fridays #3, coming at you Friday, February 11. With lots of new features being fabricated for the 10-11 season, Fresh Fridays will again provide fun, laid back jam sessions on constantly changing, never before seen setups in the parks. Look for more themed events this season, all with tons of prizes to award standouts throughout the sessions. Best of all, it’s completely FREE to enter!

Format
Fresh Fridays, as… always, will sport a low-key, relaxed jam session format, where riders can hit the new setup as many times as they want, in any order they want, just like a normal day of riding with friends. Registration will be from 5:00-6:30 at the registration desk on the Upper Level of the Lodge. The shred sesh will last from 7:00 – 8:00, with the awards taking place nearby the setup immediately after the jam ends. Oh, and don’t worry, ATP will leave the new setup out all weekend long for everyone to ride!

I was out there last night and conditions were great. It was my first day out there this year and it never ceases to amaze me how much of a base they can lay down. If you have never been to a Fresh Friday event, go check it out. They always have a unique feature set up and the level of riding is very impressive.

Beech Mountain Resort – 20.9°- Open today on 100% of the mountain with a packed powder surface. They have been making snow around the clock for the past few days and conditions look great up there this morning. They have ceased snowmaking ops for now so today should make for a great Friday if you can get out there. Their first ever College Fest is this weekend as well. Talia Freeman sent this press release over.

It should be a fun weekend up there! I know I’ll be up there at least one day so definitely go check it out if you can.

Cataloochee – 29.6°- They are open on 100% of the mountain and made snow overnight. The camera looks great up there this morning as there is some sweet looking corduroy thanks to the excellent grooming job. Just a reminder that it’s Learn to Ski and Snowboard Season at Cataloochee and with the purchase of rentals you get a free 1.5 hour beginner lesson!

Sapphire Valley – 33°- Open today on 100% of the mountain. Tubing is also open and they will have night skiing tonight. Don’t forget that Sapphire Valley will be hosting their Annual Outhouse Races in just a week or so!

Sugar Mountain – 26°- Open today on 100% of the mountain. They are reporting packed powder conditions this morning. It should be great skiing and riding as always up there. Skating and tubing are also open.

Wolf Ridge – 21° – Open on 13 of 23 slopes today with a groomed surface. The upper lodge and Ridge Runner/Nature trails will be open today at 4:30pm for night skiing so try and get up there for an enjoyable Friday night!

Finally, as Sarah mentioned yesterday, WE NEED MORE PICTURES! I myself just got back from a trip in Utah and I love seeing all these pictures from out west, but I know there are plenty of you out there at the local resorts. To get some more trip reports out of you guys, we’re having a mini contest this weekend. The person the we judge to have the best trip report on the messageboard from one of the local resorts will win 4 passes to either Cataloochee, Wolf Ridge, or Massanutten. So take a camera with you! It’s been pretty hard in the morning lately to post a photo of the day when there aren’t any new ones coming in! With the beautiful weather expected this weekend, I’m hoping there will be plenty to choose from come Monday morning.

That’s about it for today. Send me stuff at [email protected] and enjoy your Friday!
