A Promising Week Lies Ahead

Oh man, I am so much more stoked today than I was last Monday.  Colder temps have returned, snowmaking has resumed, and even a little bit of natural snow is in the forecast. IT’S GONNA BE A GOOD WEEK.

About 75 percent of the resorts are making snow this morning.  You can see for yourself on the ski cams or on the snow report.  Two of the cams that stuck out the most for me were the App Ski Mtn and Massanutten Resort cams.  They’re below.

Appalachian Ski Mountain looks awesome this morning. It’s amazing what a single night of snowmaking can do out there.

Is it just me or are those mini pillows on the tables at Massanutten? That’s all from snowmaking!

The weather for the rest of the week looks fantastic.  It’s going to be cold and snowy-ish during the work week, with things clearing up just in time for the weekend.  I’m already looking forward to a sunny day at Beech on Saturday.  Overall, everyone should be able to make snow at night with some ski areas able to keep snowmaking going around the clock through Saturday.  You heard that right, 5 days of around the clock snowmaking for some.  Wooo!

Up into the northern portion of the region, Canaan, Snowshoe, Wisp, and Timberline might see a little bit more snow than the rest of us.  Just check out the forecast for Snowshoe from the National Weather Service.

A chance of snow each day this week for Snowshoe.

That’s just beautiful.  Canaan, Timberline, and Wisp should have some excellent conditions for their opening/re-openings this weekend and I expect we’ll see a good number of trail openings at Snowshoe throughout the week.

Speaking of Snowshoe, we’ll have a BIG announcement at something taking place there in the coming months.  I am UBER PUMPED about it.  That’s all I’ll say for now.  Just stay tuned to the site and there should be something up either later today or first thing tomorrow.

Back to the current happenings…this week is going to be a good one.  The roller coaster that is early season Southeast weather is on the upswing.  We went from a cold and snowy Thanksgiving week to a warm, wet-ish one last week, and now we’re back to cold and snowy.  Sheesh.  Mother Nature is playing games with my heart.  Let’s hope that this bout cold is here to stay for a while.

Until tomorrow!
