Mars Hill, NC – January 11, 2007 – Wolf Ridge Ski Resort is pleased to announce the grand opening of the new Breakaway section of the mountain including a new Ski Tunnel, Ski Slope and Terrain Park. A Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony was held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2007, at the top of the new ski slope behind the Upper Wolf Ridge Lodge. Representatives from the Asheville and Madison Chambers of Commerce were present.

This new section of the mountain represents an investment of more than $1 million dollars and includes state-of-the-art snow making equipment, a new Quad lift, and the new Ski Tunnel, Ski Slope and Terrain Park. The new ski slope, Boardwalk, winds its way into Breakaway Village where skiers will find Cool Beans, a new coffee and ice cream shop, and The Library, a new bookstore featuring books, videos and games. Rentals and lift tickets will be available at Breakaway Village later this season.

During the winter months, Wolf Ridge Ski Resort is the largest employer in Madison County. The unseasonably warm weather in December impacted many ski slopes on the eastern seaboard, including Wolf Ridge Ski Resort. The change in weather this week, including eight inches of new snow, has allowed Wolf Ridge to move forward with the planned expansion of the slopes in time for one of the busiest weekends of the season – the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.

Wolf Ridge Ski Resort is located just 30 minutes from Asheville and is Western North Carolina’s most accessible ski slope. For more information about Wolf Ridge Ski Resort or Breakaway Village, call 828-689-4111.
