What a WILD ride we’ve been on of late across the Southeast! Last week while some areas received snow others were experiencing Spring. Then things got mild for a few days and then this past weekend the weather turned very cold and the resorts that wanted to made snow. Saturday may have been one of the prettiest days to ski of the season! Sunday night delivered some more natural snows to
Here’s the breakdown by featured resorts in each state:
WISP RESORT IN MARYLAND – Sunny skies today and a high near 37°. Tonight will be plenty cold enough to make snow at 19°. Wednesday will be sunny with a mild up to 50°. Thursday is looking cloudy with a very slight chance of light rain and 60°. Friday may see a little more of a chance of light rain, but nothing to kill a whole day and a high of 60°. Saturday is looking pretty with a high of 62°. Sunday may bring more spring-like showers and a mix of clouds and sun with a high of 56°. More of the same on Monday with a high near 56°.
MASSANUTTEN RESORT IN
OBER GATLINBURG IN
MOUNTAINS OF NC – The Mountains of North Carolina are in for a taste of weather that will resemble Late Spring or Early Summer for the foreseeable future. That is the consensus from all of our weather sources. The only thing that they seem to differ on only slightly is HOW BIG A TASTE. Winter isn’t over yet, but the mild streak ahead MAY mean the premature end to ski season at some resorts. You can check out how the weather ahead may dictate closures on the morning updates.
We all got another little burst of snow last night. Yesterday morning, while most of the High Country saw only a very light dusting of snow Beech Mountain saw about 1.5”. Last night the whole area got in on the act as most of the region saw anywhere from a moderate dusting to about an inch of snow. Beech dominated with another 2-3” of new snow.
Snow flurries are still flying around this morning as I post this weather update, but they will stop shortly and give way to clearing skies. It will be cloudy early and variably cloudy later in the day with a high of 44°. Most of the resorts should be able to make snow tonight (if they choose to) as temps will nose down to 24°. However that may be the last time in a while that they would be able to as temps will begin to soar with each passing day.
Wednesday should be sunny with a high of 54°. Thursday will be sunny and 60°. Friday will offer a slight chance of a shower but nothing to kill an entire day and the high is expected to get to 61°. Saturday things heat up even more with sunny skies and a high around 65°. Sunday should be Partly Cloudy and 63° and by Monday we could see a high near 70°.
There’s certainly some more cold air in the forecast for March…but will it be in time to prompt ski areas to stay open??? Stay tuned.
Until Next Time!
