Welcome to March on the Slopes

First Trax

Stay up to date by getting notified of new posts!

Here we are already, the first day of March.  I mentioned in yesterday’s post that there is something different about March and I know I feel it this morning.  A lot of the resorts feel it too and are partying up this weekend.  Let’s start by taking a look at the happenings around the mountains.

Wild Thing Weekend

Canaan Valley is having their Wild Thing Weekend today with LOTS of activities.  There’s too much going on at Canaan today to do it justice here so I’m going to link you out to their Event Schedule.  There is something for everyone from a Lollipop Children’s race to adult brackets, to a costume contest, and the famous pond jump.  It’s going to be a good time at Canaan.

Governor’s Cup Race

The oldest sanctioned race in the Southeast is at Timberline Friday, Feb. 28 through March 1. Enjoy ski clubs racing all weekend. Friday and Saturday, DJ CIN karaoke at Timbers Pub. Call 304-866-4801 or 800-SNOWING.

Homegrown Music Festival & Progression Rail Jam

There’s local music all weekend long at Snowshoe Mountain Resort.  Today’s lineup includes the Blue Mule Band at 2pm, Morning Fatty at 4pm & 5:30pm, Shane Meade and the Sound at 6:30pm, and the Davisson Brothers Band at 10:30pm.

There’s also the Progression Rail Jam series.  This is a freestyle learning-based event where the competitors will work on the fundamentals and improve their park skills with the assistance of some awesome coaches and the Mountaineer Park staff. Judging will be based off of how much heart, attitude and dedication the rider shows and how much they progressed throughout the event. The event will be a jam style format and the contestants will have 2 hours to give their "Best in Show."

Recess wRECklESS Rail Jam

The 5th Annual Recess wRECklESS Rail Jam at App Ski Mtn is going to be the best one yet! Always a good time and always some good competition!

Snowboard and Ski Divisions

All riders of all abilities are welcome and the more spectators the merrier!

This will be a Jam format contest consisting of Rails, Boxes and other fun features! App Terrain Park will be getting it dialed as usual!

Wounded Warrior Weekend

The Appalachian Ski Patrol and App Ski Mtn. will proudly host the 2nd Annual Wounded Warrior Event on Saturday March 1st.

This is a one day event to honor, show support, and raise awareness for our Military’s Wounded Warriors.

Mardi Gras Weekend

A fantastic weekend at Wintergreen Resort with costumes, syncro-ski competition, tons of snow, Tubing, Ridgely's Fun Park, Ice Skating, Terrain Park events, bumps on Outer Limits, Live Music at The Edge and more.

This is the final weekend at Sapphire Valley and I’ve got to say they are going out in style.  They have made as much snow as they could this week to ensure a great last impression.  Have fun at Sapphire today and we will miss you.

Sapphire Valley Ski Resort
Great last weekend conditions – we will miss you!

There is lots going on today and the resorts are going to be pretty full as a result.  We have quite a few people up at Snowshoe this weekend where the mountain is completely booked up, and for very good reason – the conditions up there are at peak!

Snowshoe Mountain Resort Conditions

Today is the last day to get the Ridiculous Pass for next season.  The pass is $299 today and includes an unlimited pass for next year as well as covers the rest of THIS season too!

It’s a party weekend on the mountains for sure as spring fever starts to set in.  The first day of spring is officially March 20th, but like it or not March marks a mental change and the resorts start thinking of spring.  Starting on Monday, Beech Mountain Resort will start offering weekday pricing every day for the remainder of the season.

But wait, winter is not over yet!

Winter Storm Watches!

Snowshoe has a Winter Storm Watch starting at 7pm on Sunday and going to 7pm on Monday.  Snowshoe could get ANOTHER 4” or more of fresh pow.  Wintergreen has their own Winter Storm Watch on Monday starting at 12am and going to 6pm.  Wintergreen could get 5” of good ole natural snow.  The Homestead has been issued a Winter Storm Watch from 1am on Monday to 7pm and they can expect 4-6” of snow.  Finally, Wisp in Maryland has been issued a Winter Storm Watch starting at 1pm on Sunday and going to 1pm on Monday.  Wisp could get 6” or more.  Stay tuned for powder alerts!

Spring – where?!

Take Care!
