Forecast Update:

This weekend is going to be the tale of completely different weather. The first being today Saturday, nice and sunny with temperatures near 40 and great slope conditions. Tomorrow could start off promising with some natural snow for the first half of the day as a storm system moves in from the central part of the country. The bad news is it will switch to a cold rain by late afternoon as temperatures will hold steady then slightly warm throughout the day. The rain will stick around right through Monday as a bout of warmer and wetter weather set’s up shop for the early part of next week. If you plan on heading up to West Virginia, Virginia or Maryland expect it to remain mostly snow and it should pile up nicely at snowshoe to around 3-6".

Even though next week starts off warm and wet, the end of the week could be interesting. Right now the timing and track of systems are not lined up for a snowstorm. It wouldn’t take much though for a low which should form to our South over the Gulf of Mexico to pump some moisture North over some invading cold air from Canada to produce some winter weather for the Southern and Central Appalachians. I’ll be keeping a close eye on the trends as we head into the middle of next week.

Enjoy the skiing and the president’s day’s holiday!

Good skiing!
