Hurricane Matthew Provided Awesome Tests of Video Servers

As the Weather Channel and other weather media began the foreboding broadcasts about the massive and destructive nature of Hurricane Matthew, we began receiving phone calls and emails requesting permission to use all of the cameras that we have partnered with along the coasts of Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina.

St Augustine, Florida took the brunt of the storm on Friday and through yesterday evening we saw 90,484 visitors and 220,940 page views from Thursday AM through 10am this morning (as I am posting this story).

Already this morning we’ve seen 18,851 visitors and 50,149 pageviews (again by 11am).

For the record, our most visited single day was on March 5, 2015 when we saw 105,973 visitors. So I guess we can say that SNOW TRUMPS A HURRICANE…

I looked back at some archived stories and it was amazing to find that more than two feet of snow fell at Snowshoe, Canaan, Timberline and Winterplace on Feb 22nd, 2015 and then heavy snow hit again March 5th. Now THAT was a memorable SkiSoutheast / Snowshoe Summit that season!

It’s a rainy Saturday across the region and with nothing else to do – check out the LIVE BEACH CAMS…
