Today will be a beautiful, blue-sky kind of day in the Southeast with temps in the upper 40s in West Virginia and plenty of snow in which to ski and ride on. Look at this morning’s slope conditions page and it will be quickly obvious that only TWO of the Southeast’s eighteen ski areas remain in operation. Those two are both located in West Virginia. Snowshoe Mountain Resort is operating with 39 slopes and trails and a base of 46-66" and Timberline Resort has 32 trails and 48-80" +/-.

The weather looks to have cleared out nicely and today through Thursday should offer wonderful conditions for Spring. We’ve had some questions already about this weekend, and all we can do is report what we’re getting. Right now (and that could change) the forecast is for rain and thunderstorms to kick in on Friday. There’s actually a 60% chance of rain on Friday in West Virginia and according to two sources…they could be occasionally strong.

Saturday is looking like rain across most of the state, but at the highest elevations (around Snowshoe) they could see some SNOW! The forecasted high for Saturday looks to be in the low 30s and lows should hover in the upper 20s. So if you’re wanting another "fix" of snow and cold…Snowshoe’s the place to be on Saturday as it looks right now! The probability of precip is only around 30% so we’ll see…but I would expect to see some light snow on Saturday if you’re headed up to Snowshoe.

Sunday looks a little rainy again…but again only about a 30% chance of rain.

Don’t miss Snowshoe’s "Last Hurrah Weekend: April 1 – 3".

Even though they are promoting this as their "last hurrah" remember that they plan to stay open until April 10th. So we’re calling it the NEXT TO LAST HURRAH weekend! They say that they are going out with a bang! Celebrate the last hurrah to the winter season with fun and games, live entertainment and their 3rd Annual Pond Skimming Extravaganza. It should be loads of fun.
