Oh my goodness! Is that wind out there blowing! Amazing stuff! The HIGH TEMP for today was at sunrise with temperatures falling into the 20s (teens up top) this morning. Snow showers end tonight. Wednesday is partly cloudy and chilly with flurries possible at night. The next chance for snow is Thursday night and Friday.

It was raining very lightly at 6am and by 6:10am the temperatures had dropped and it started pouring snow. Within an hour we had an inch at my place and more is forecasted through the day. Some portions of the High Country, particularly the highest elevations, may see 4-6".

Ski Beech and Sugar had already received 2" of new snow and if these winds to blow things away…it should be a great day of skiing or riding. Regardless, the temps will allow for snowmaking and with added natural snow…conditions should be S-W-E-E-T!

Here’s some resort notes:

APPALACHIAN – App did not make snow last night, but are projecting that they will make snow tonight. Temps would allow them to now but with as much snow as they already have they are not making snow while ski sessions are running.

CATALOOCHEE – Remember The Cat is closed til Friday.
HAWKSNEST – Same here…closed til Friday
SAPPHIRE VALLEY – In case you haven’t visited with us in a while, Sapphire closed a couple of weeks ago for the season.

SKI BEECH – Today is "Two for Tuesday" where you can get two for one lift tickets on adult day or twilight skiing or riding. Ski Beech has announced that the Quad lift will be closed for repairs today.

SUGAR MOUNTAIN – March Madness Rates are in effect and run through the end of the season. Save up to 25% on lift tickets, rental equipment and lessons. Also, if you missed out this past weekend on the special Spyder Sale…they have extended it for one more week! We were talking with Susie Parnell, the local Spyder rep and she said things went off so well that Sugar plans to do this event again next season.

I also happened to be talking with Brenda Benning who has been up at Sugar for many years and she was really speaking highly of Sugar’s Ski School. I know that Kent Jackson has been sending us a lot of great images…most of which have the instructors doing their thing over there. If you’re a parent and planning a trip up this weekend…Sugar’s guys and gals are top notch…and they even have an independently operated Day Care…if you just need to slope time by yourself.

WOLF LAUREL – Is closed and will probably reopen this weekend.

SkiNC Summit at Jackson Hole? – Joe Harmon has written us from beautiful Jackson Hole a couple of times during his trip out there and this morning he wrote, "…I sent a photo and note that there is now 4 people in the picture. This includes "markpnc" from the messageboard as well. He got out here on sat, but we didnt meet up with him til today because we were out playing with the wild life on a snowmobile tour to yellowstone yesterday." He added that he had ran into five others while skiing out THERE that ski the High Country of Western North Carolina all the time…saying that he recognized them from Appalachian. It IS a SMALL WORLD!

If we get a chance we’ll post Joe’s photo…but in all honesty I have a ton of images that we’ve received over the last few days that I haven’t gotten around to as yet.

SEE YOU ON THE SLOPES!
