Thumpety Thump Thump, Frosty’s on His Way

It worked! Mike's call for "drastic measures" yesterday worked!! The morning snow report included TWO NEW INCHES of snow in the past 24 hours. Granted, it was at only one resort – Snowshoe Mountain, but we'll take it (as I'm sure, they will, too).

Not to worry, it doesn't end there. The weather forecast is looking pretty WHITE in the near future (or blue, or purple, depending on the snow accumulation model you're referencing). Some heavy snow is projected to fall across the region between Thursday and Friday night. By heavy, I mean anywhere from one inch (that's heavy compared to NO inches) to 18 inches! Now, 18 is at the high end of the range, so it may be more accurate to say about 15 inches. Either way, that's a lot of the good stuff.

The resorts in North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and Tennessee are looking at the "oh, nice" lower end of about one to three inches, whereas the West Virginia resorts are the ones who lie on the "holy smokes, this is awesome" end of the stick.  If you're a visual person, check out News 14 Carolina Meteorologist Matthew East's model here.

What's just as crazy is the overall temperature drop in the past 24 hours. On average, the change is about 12 degrees colder. Just what the resorts need to throw some manmade snow into the mix. I'm liking my bet more and more 😉

Snowshoe reports, "We'll be turning the guns on and moving toward the South Mountain area of the mountain as well as looking toward expansions at the Silver Creek area." There's no doubt in my mind that you will, Snowshoe!

Wintergreen has gotten word of the good news and writes the following, "Overnight Thursday it should be cold enough to fire up our snowmaking system and start laying down snow.  We are 100% ready to go.  All of our new snow guns, the pump house and water tank are online and tested….all we need is cold." And cold is what you're going to get, Wintergreen!

I'm a little surprised — there's not much else out there in terms of updates from the majority of the resorts, other than the standard "we'll be making snow as soon as temperatures allow."  I'll give it another day. Maybe they're containing their excitement.

For those of you sitting back in your chair with your arms folded, thinking "I'll believe it when I see it," stop it right now! Snow is coming and that's that. Get excited. What's the worst that happens? …it doesn't. At least you'll have had a couple days worth of hope. So get up off your bum and join in on the snow dance.

Thanks to all of you participated in yesterday's proceedings, whether you did your snow dances, prayed, recited an Irish blessing or two, did all of the above at the same time (now that's a video I'd like to watch)… whatever it was, do it again and again!
