The Season that Keeps on Giving

First Trax

Wow. My final first trax of the season, and what a [first] season it has been [for me]!  Case in point, to the left is Snowshoe on April 5, 2013!          I can say with certainty I'll be looking forward to the next one much more so now that I've had my own taste of southeast skiing (or snowboarding rather). I know I'll enjoy the off-season, but this next time around when winter comes, I'll be greeting it with a smile on my face and hopefully a board under my arm.

Hold up! It may be my last day, but Snowshoe's and Wintergreen's clocks are still ticking. You have two and a half more days to be a part of Snowshoe's amazing season, as they close after Sunday's session. You can also "make history" with Wintergreen tomorrow on their "latest open day ever."

We're talking about the final hours here and snow's still coming down. I think we could call this the season that keeps on giving. Our area of western NC saw some winter weather yesterday, but that's not all.

Snowshoe's website reads, "We received 2 inches of new snow overnight pushing our March total to just over 5 feet. Cupp Run, Shay's Revenge and Knot Bumper were ungroomed overnight. Cloudy skies will clear throughout the day with mild temperatures from now until Sunday. Come get your turns in and enjoy amazing spring conditions across the mountain while soaking up the last moments of a great season. Groomer's Choice is Spruce. Soaring Eagle Express and Powderidge lifts will be closed in the Snowshoe Basin. Upper Flume, Gangway, Camp4 and Powderidge are access only."

If that's not enough to get you out there, check out what they have planned:

It's time to pay your respects to another amazing winter come and gone. Join us as we kick off our Last Hurrah weekend.

On Wintergreen's Facebook, they posted yesterday, "T-minus two days 'til we break all records and open up to ski, ride and tube on Saturday, April 6! Who's coming up to make history with us?" Make that T-minus one day now.

You shouldn't argue with mother nature. If she gives us fresh snow to play in, it's in our best interest to play. It's along the same lines of staying indoors on a gorgeous summer day – you don't want to waste it.

For those following the unspoken rules 😉 I hope you have an epic last run! And for everyone, I hope this season served you well. Whether it was your first, 31st, or last one, I hope it was better than expected and worthy enough to remind you why you got involved with the sport to begin with. May your memories keep you contented until next season's first opening day announcement. Until then, happy spring, summer, and fall!
