Sugar Mountain Resort used the cold temps that invaded the area on Saturday night and all day Sunday (and overnight) to blast their core slopes and trails with enough manmade powder to create an 8-24″ base of snow. That based was groomed early this morning and Sugar opens for day skiing and snowboarding today.
SURPRISE NEWS – is that Cataloochee Ski Area also opened this morning with a base of 12-14″ of groomed terrain (by Chris Bates himself) and they open with Rabbit Hill and Easy Way (two 600′ slopes) for day sessions only on this first day.
Sugar will ALSO not be open for night sessions tonight AND they are blasting their trails today and will be all day as long as temps allow. It is 23.6° at Sugar Mountain this morning. As mentioned on the snow report this morning, Sugar is open from the top of their mountain with 1 lift (their six man lift) and 4 slopes and trails.
Stay tuned as all ski areas made snow overnight and we’ll have more to share later this morning.
