Sugar and Cataloochee are both still skiing and riding today on two trails. The temps this morning have already moderated up from where they were overnight! Sugar is still making snow this AM (as of this 8:32am report), but the temperatures will turn those machines off soon later this morning as it is already just 33° at the BASE and 38.5° at the SUMMIT of Sugar. Can anyone say "inversion"?

The Maggie Valley temp is 25° as of this report, but the snowguns are OFF at Cataloochee. Cataloochee writes, "On Sunday, we will be skiing on two beginner slopes only and they are "Beginners Easy Way and Beginners Rabbit Hill" serviced by the Easy Way Triple Chairlift on a base of 8-20” and a loose granular surface. On Sunday, we will offer one session of skiing only, day skiing from 8:30am – 4:30pm, with a morning and afternoon half day rate also available. Weekday and student rates will be in effect and midweek season pass holders may use their passes as well."

Cataloochee wanted us to pass the word that they ARE operating on their NORMAL early season schedule and that means that they will NOT be open Monday through Friday of the coming week, and plan on (weather-permitting) to reopen next Saturday for day skiing. They plan to aggressively make snow as long as temps allow throughout the week ahead.

Check back for an update from around the region a bit later this morning. Until then, have a great Sunday!
