Woooooo! I don’t know about you but I am PUMPED for the Snowshoe Summit!  I’ve been getting more and more excited about it as the week has worn on. Apparently, a lot of you have as well because we’ve seen a pretty substantial increase in the number of attendees. The official number is now up to 81 as of this morning. There’s been a good 20 or so folks who have been added in the last day or two, so it’s cool to see that all of this shameless promoting that Mike and I have been doing is working. He told me this morning that people must love seeing us on camera.

Remember, it’s not too late to still book your trip! If you do so today, you’ll also get two free lift tickets to any ski resort in the region (except Sugar) for next season. All in all, you’re gonna get discounted lodging, free skiing this weekend, a free long sleeve Summit 2012 shirt, and free skiing for next year too. Call Snowshoe now and join us!

For all of those who are attending, remember that you will be able to pick up your free Sunday lift passes on Saturday night at our Apres Ski Party in Moonshine. It should be a good time and we’ll also be giving away all of the long sleeve t-shirts we ordered.

Alright, now as for what’s going on this morning across the region. As I was talking about yesterday morning, it was wet yesterday. The afternoon wasn’t that bad actually but some storms moved through during the evening and a few resorts actually cancelled their night sessions. There was actually a tornado watch in effect for Avery County, home to Beech and Sugar, at one point last night. I think it’s going to be a pretty active storm season…

With all of that rain (yeah I said it) we’re seeing a lowering of base depths this morning on the ski reports for just about everyone. It’s good to see an honest reporting of conditions by the resorts as a few times this year this hasn’t been the case. There are also a handful of trails that have been closed but that’s not too bad considering the weather yesterday.

The cams this morning are showing a pretty awesome start to the day. Sunshine is abundant and that will continue to be the case today. Spring-like is the phrase of the day.

Sunny skies are also visible at Winterplace this morning! >>>

Before I go, there are a few noteworthy events to mention. First up, Talia Freeman let me know yesterday that Beech Mountain will begin their March Madness rates this Monday. Starting then, all full day lift tickets will be $30, even on the weekend. She informed me that Beech is planning on staying open for a couple more weeks, so that would give you at least two weekends to take advantage of this rate.

Appalachian Ski Mountain continues to offer free skiing and snowboarding for the rest of the season if you go ahead and buy your season pass for next year. App isn’t scheduled to close until March 24th and they will more than likely make that date, so that means you can get 3+ weeks of free skiing if you take advantage of this deal!

Cataloochee is holding their annual Big Season Pass sale this Sunday. Here’s what they are saying.

Sunday, March 4 is our BIG One Day Season Pass Sale. Pass prices on Sunday, March 4th will be the lowest of this year and next and you will be able to ski for the rest of this season and next on the pass you purchase on Sunday.  These special prices (including our midweek season pass for $179) will be available from 8:30am – 4:30pm only on Sunday, March 4. Only 500 of the $179 midweek passes will be sold.  You can purchase here at the area, online or call in between the hours of 8:30am-4:30pm on that Sunday only.  Our next pricing tier begins on March 5 and continues through March 31. Pass pricing will go up on April 1. Also, seasonal ski and snowboard rentals will also be available for order beginning on Sunday, March 4 as well.  For more information on season pass and seasonal rental pricing, click on  http://www.cataloochee.com/trip_planning/season_passes.php.

Finally, Canaan Valley Resort is holding their Wild Thing Weekend this Friday-Sunday.

Get wet and wild with us over the weekend with plenty of games, contest and activities happening at the ski area. Costume contest, eating contest, lollipop and saucer races, and the Infamous Pond Jump to name a few – prizes awarded. Take advantage of this limited offer – nightly lodging and lift ticket for just $69 per person/per night. This deal goes away once rooms are sold! Book Online or call today to reserve your rooms (800) 622-4121.

I went ahead and went over all these events for the weekend because I will be in West Virginia tomorrow, so Mike will be with you guys tomorrow morning. I’ll be making the drive up tonight after work and I’ll be out and about on the slopes tomorrow. I’m looking forward to meeting up with everyone this weekend.  It’s gonna be awesome!  See you guys up there!
