Southeast to See Sunny Skies, Some Rain and Some Snow in the Next Few Days!

Weather

Stay up to date by getting notified of new posts!

The weather is pretty much the same across the Southeast for the next couple of days.  Expect a very nice day today, some chances of showers on Sunday (but it shouldn’t totally rain out the day) then more showers on Monday (50% chance or more in some areas) and then some chances at Snow or Mixed Precip on Tuesday.

Here’s the details:

Snowshoe should see a high today in the mid 40s, overnight lows around 30.  Sunny today. Sunday actually will be milder with a chance of a thunderstorm. Monday will be rainy with highs around 40° and a low around 26° (This could be some snow towards the evening hours. Tuesday looks like SNOW with highs in the upper 20s and lows in the upper teens.  Most forecasts are only calling for a 30% but we’re seeing a bit better than that, but not a lot of snow.

Wisp Resort in Maryland is looking much the same as Snowshoe in West Virginia…only crank the temps up a couple of degrees on Monday.  Tuesday will be about the same as Snowshoe with a better chance of snow (50%).  Wednesday looks continued cold in the 30s and lows in the low 20s.

Wintergreen Resort in Virginia is looking at temps close to 60° for today and Sunny Skies.  Sunday looks like some sun and light rain and temps in the low to mid 50s.  Monday looks like a mirror of Sunday.  Highs in the low 50s and lows overnight around freezing.  Tuesday looks like a mix of rain and snow and a high of 38° and lows near 28°.  Wednesday will provide a return to Sunny Skies and highs in the upper 40s and lows near 30°.

Ober Gatlinburg will be nice today with highs around 45°.  Sunday will offer an 80% chance of rain and highs near 60°.  Monday slightly less rain (30% chance of it) and temps around 50°.  Monday night gets snowmaking cold at 25°.  Tuesday looks rainy right now, but not an all day event.  Highs Tuesday should be around freezing with lows near 25° Tuesday night.  Wednesday through Friday looks nice with near normal temps.

It will be another mild couple of days for the High Country – about 8° milder than normal.  On the low side of the forecast we are going to be some 13° milder than normal which probably means no snowmaking tonight.  We’re seeing another temperature inversion this morning where it’s 25° at Valle Crucis and 41° on top of Beech Mountain. Maybe they can make snow at Valle Crucis and truck it to the slopes!

The normals for this time of year are 41° for a high and 21° for a low temp.  The records for this date are:

69° for a high recorded back in 1999
-11° for a low back in 1986
The most single day snowfall on this date was 6” back in 1985.

All of the talk is still hovering around “when will a more normal winter pattern hit the region?”  The answer is not as soon as some were stating and hoping just days ago.  We’ve glanced at the long-range forecast and the high side of temps are looking more normal for the next 7-10 days, but the low temp side isn’t.  After today and Sunday, we’re not seeing any of the real mild/warm temps in the forecast, but even though the highs for the next several days are hovering in the 40s (about normal), the lows are in the mid 20s to 34°.  Not mild, but not exactly cold either. That’s through February 6th.  It will be interesting to see what the Skiing Weatherman (Herb Stevens), Ray Russell, Brad Panovich, et al, have to say about all that cold air that is supposed to be trying to get down here.  It’s going to have to try a little harder!

Here’s the forecast details for the next few days:

Saturday…Partly cloudy. Highs around 50°. South winds around 5 mph. Overnight lows around freezing.

Sunday…Showers…Mainly in the morning. Highs around 50°. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Overnight lows near 38°

Monday…Mostly cloudy in the morning…Then partly cloudy with a chance of rain showers in the afternoon. Highs around 50. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 30 percent. Ovenight low near 32°

Tuesday…Mostly cloudy with a chance of snow or possibly rain showers. Breezy with lows around 30. Highs around the upper 30s. Chance of precipitation 30 percent. Tuesday Night should get cold enough to make snow at 24°

Wednesday…Looks like a Partly Cloudy day and near normal temps for this time of year with a high near 43° and a low of 25°

Until Next Time!
