What's New for Snowshoe Mountain for 2007-2008

Every season offers something exciting and new to experience at Snowshoe Mountain and this season is no different!  Last season Snowshoe added a new high-speed, detachable quad lift and announced plans to cut two new trails.

However, once construction began a spectacular gladed area emerged and Snowshoe is pleased to unveil three new slopes for the 07-08 season, bringing the mountain total to 60 diverse trails!

Partnered with the mountain's newest development, Sawmill,

(Click here to see more about Sawmill!)
Snowshoe has added three trails and they are all marked for experts! They are located on the southern side of the mountaintop, (to the left of the Widowmaker Trail as you would see the mountain from the bottom) and they will all be serviced by the one year-old Soaring Eagle Express high-speed quad. The expansion marks the first time in 10 years Snowshoe has introduced new trails.

(Snowshoe actually did widen several trails back in 2004, which also increased its skiable acres.)

The 11 acres of freshly cut trails have been named Camp 99 (see map above), Sawmill and Sawmill Glades. The names continue the mountain's tradition of trail names honoring the area's logging heritage. A joint venture with Sawmill Village developers, who contributed approximately $1 million to the project, the trails will offer Snowshoe guests residing in the new South Mountain neighborhood ski-in/ski-out access from the gated community.

New for Beginners too!

While the new trails cater to the expert skier, and add to the diverse terrain on all three of Snowshoe's unique areas, the mountain has not forgotten its beginner guests. A new Magic Carpet lift will open this season adjacent to Skidder Slope, aiding the mountain's most inexperienced visitors and servicing Snowshoe's ski school. The lift will increase the mountain's uphill capacity by 1,500 skiers per hour.

Area Description:

Snowshoe Mountain offers the most of everything that makes skiing, snowboarding and generally having a great time on the snow in the Southeast. They receive the most natural snow at 180" per season; they have the largest vertical drop of 1500 feet; they offer the most skiable terrain at 244 acres; they have the most efficient lift system carrying more than 24,600 people up the mountain per hour...and the list goes on and on.

Snowshoe Mountain, located in Pocahontas County, is the largest winter resort in the mid-Atlantic and Southeast, and has been voted as the top resort in the region numerous times by regional and national media outlets. SkiSoutheast.com's own viewers have voted it as the number one ski destination in the Southeast every year since 1996. The reasons are too numerous to mention within this space, however suffice to say that you owe it to yourself to make Snowshoe Mountain one of YOUR destinations for the coming winter.

Snowshoe is comprised of TWO distinct mountains that are skiable with ONE lift ticket. The terrain offers challenging trails for every skill level, and Snowshoe is one of the best resorts regarding recognizing the ever-growing population of snowboarders as they offer THREE terrain parks...which are open to skiers and snowboarders.

In addition to offering skiing and snowboarding, Snowshoe Mountain offers Snowmobiling, snowshoeing, a tubing hill with 6 lanes, cross country skiing, night skiing, horse-drawn sleigh rides, hot tubs, and spa facilities and so much more.

For those that want a little diversion from all of the snow sports, Snowshoe has a lot to offer. Visit the Connection Nightclub, Comedy Cellar and a host of restaurants and shops.
