The season’s first few inches of snow have skiers and snowboarders excited for winter

SNOWSHOE, W. Va – (October 21, 2018) – Snowshoe Mountain Resort (www.snowshoemtn.com), the #1 mountain resort in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions, received their first measurable snowfall of the season Sunday morning, with 2 inches of snow falling along the mountain’s summit. Snowshoe plans to open for the 2018/19 winter season exactly one month from today, on Wednesday, November 21, weather permitting.

“It feels like Mother Nature is on the same page with us,” said Snowshoe spokesperson Shawn Cassell. “We finished up our summer operations last weekend, and now a week later we’ve got snow, right on schedule. With all the upgrades we’ve made to our snowmaking system we are really looking forward to this season, so to already be seeing some consistent cold weather this fall is really nice.”

Snowshoe has invested nearly $4M in snowmaking and grooming upgrades this offseason. Resort officials say the improvements they’ve made to their snowmaking system will allow them to open more terrain earlier in the season and maintain the snow surface more consistently, while also dramatically reducing their energy usage and carbon footprint.
