It is Saturday, November 12, 2016 and we have our very FIRST snowmaking sightings. The snowguns are running at various locations around Sugar Mountain Resort in Banner Elk this morning as temperatures hover around 32° this morning on portions of the mountain. It is safe to say that snowmaking has been somewhat limited…but it IS the first snowmaking of the season. Also NONE of the other ski areas in North Carolina, Virginia or Maryland are making snow at this time.

The temperatures were also pretty spotty overnight and early this morning at Snowshoe Mountain Resort in West Virginia – but good gracious have THEY made some snow!

We looked around several of the Resort Webcams via www.ResortCams.com and they have created some real mounds of snow up top and they are making snow from top to bottom as of 9am Saturday morning.

Canaan Valley Resort looks pretty white this morning, but we are not certain if that was from any snowgun action or simply a heavy frost.

We will update you more on the likelihood of additional snowmaking this evening and over the days ahead.
