Snowshoe Mountain’s “Mike” is Always Working the Hill. This shot is from the Boathouse Webcam. Remember you can see LIVE CAMS year round at www.ResortCams.com

…and it’s SNOWING as of 9am Monday morning. Snowshoe ALSO picked up 1″ of snow overnight and they are now at 167″ of snow on the season.

They will operate on 30 of 60 trails today.

Appalachian Ski Mountain – CLOSED THIS WEEK MONDAY-FRIDAY and reopening Sat and Sunday for one last weekend.

The rest of the ski resorts in the Southeast and mid-Atlantic are now taking a much deserved “deep breath” before beginning the hard and busy work of repairing or maintaining equipment that might need a little TLC. The core crews of each mountain will be making enhancements as budgets allow in preparation to DO IT ALL AGAIN beginning sometime in October or November – as weather permits.

We’re going to go into a little nit of a “hibernation mode” ourselves. We’ll keep an eye on things this week and report as necessary, but with Snowshoe being the lone resort open this week, we will simply recommend checking our SNOW REPORT daily if you’re feeling the Joneses for one more turn down the mountain. You can also check SNOWSHOE’S SNOW REPORT by clicking here – http://www.snowshoemtn.com/the-mountain/trail-and-weather-report.aspx

Remember that Appalachian Ski Mountain WILL OPEN this Saturday and Sunday for one more weekend as a fund-raiser. You can see more details by looking back a story or two.

With that – we won’t be updating this FirsTrax column unless some kind of freak snowstorm hits for April Fool’s Day…. and we’ll post a closing comment or two after this weekend’s closing turns and then we’ll catch you guys on the flip side.

Until Next Time…
