Snowshoe Opening More Terrain and Lifts This Weekend

SNOWSHOE, West Virginia – (November 30, 2012) – Snowshoe Mountain is setting records as the resort celebrates its largest turnout for an opening weekend in over a decade. Snowshoe made the decision to open early after nearly 28 inches of snow came to the resort from storms, solidifying the resort’s earliest opening in ten years. Over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Snowshoe saw over 73% more skier visits than their opening last year.

While other ski areas are slow getting open, Snowshoe was able to open over 40 acres of skiable terrain, as well as simultaneously open Silver Creek – a joint opening that has not been done in several years. Now the resort is quickly expanding terrain as fast as they can. They opened three new trails and Progression Session Terrain Park on Wednesday (photo attached), and as of today they have expanded with 36 additional acres for the weekend. The resort now has 7 lifts and 21 trails open – quite a feat given how early in the season it still is. Silver Creek will remain open on weekends only, until it’s regularly scheduled opening of December 14.

Area skiers and boarders are hungry and optimistic for a great snow season as the resort’s season pass sales are up 44% from last year.  The resort is continuing to make additional snow and are confident that December will be one of the strongest that the resort has seen in years.
