Well, it’s hard to believe I am back in the office after being off for a week and a half. I really enjoyed getting to spend the holidays with my friends and family, but it’s also nice to be back in the office. My 6:00 am wake up alarm didn’t sound too wonderful, and I had the hardest time getting out of bed. I guess it’s back to the everyday grind of being productive! My New Year’s resolution starts today. I waited because it was the weekend, and we had friends in town, do I decided that starting on a Monday would be way better! So after work today it’s off to the gym! So…we’ll see how I’m doing in a couple of months!

The biggest piece of news for the morning is that snowmaking temperatures have finally returned to the region! It’s cold enough for snowmaking ops at all of the North Carolina ski areas and most other ski areas in the southeast and mid-Atlantic are also making snow! After big holiday skiing and riding and mild temperatures it’s nice to see temperatures return that will allow for bases to continue to be rebuilt!!

Reminder that our SkiNC.com summit is coming up quickly on January 22!! It’s going to be a great time and we’re looking forward to seeing all of you out there!

Here’s what’s happening…

Tubing is closed today and will re-open tomorrow! Progression Park: small and large propane tanks, small battleship, small flat-down rail, 2 small jumps, medium jump, 2 progression tables.

West Virginia…

Canaan Valley – 25°- Open today on 11 of 39 trails! Snowmaking continues as weather permits. Look for additional terrain to open as the week progresses. Ice skating is also open today!

Snowshoe Mountain – 12°- Open today on 49 of 60 trails and 12 lifts running. Snowmaking is in progress! Some terrain is closed today in efforts to rebuild base after heavy skier traffic through the holidays. Here’s what Laura Parquette has to say, “We’ll continue to make snow around the clock whenever possible and with the current conditions, our snowmakers are putting out a fantastic product. Widowmaker was groomed early last night and had snowmaking occurring for the remainder of the overnight hours and should be awesome this morning with ungroomed fresh snow! Lower Shay’s Revenge is closed for the day so that our grooming team can get to work. We haven’t groomed Lower Shay’s yet this year and it’s quite an undertaking. Mountaineer is closed at the Silver Creek area today for snowmaking in preparation for our large park build in the very near future. Once this resurfacing work is done, Snowshoe will once again be in amazing shape. And even with limited terrain closed for concentrated work, we continue to offer the region’s most open terrain. What this mild period did do was restore some of our water supply at the Silver Creek area. This will allow us to get to work on the slopes in that area that have yet to open this season. With some sustained cold and enough water, we should have Bear Claw and Flying Eagle in the next week and a half or so. We’ve also made fresh snow in Spruce Glades, and our park team will hard at work later this week building in that area for the upcoming WV Open Slopestyle Event."

Timberline Resort – 9°- Open today on 32 of 39 trails and slopes. Snowmaking is in progress on parts of the mountain. Timberline hosts a Rail Jam on January 8th and is open to all!

Winterplace – 20°- Open today on 26 trails and slopes. Snowmaking is in progress! Winterplace will also be open today for tubing!! Conditions are still great!

Maryland…

Wisp Resort – 16°- Open today for the day session only on 27 of 32 trails and slopes with 8 lifts running. Terrain parks as well as ice skating are open. Snowmaking is in progress laying down a nice new layer of snow!

Tennessee…

Ober Gatlinburg – 25°- Open today for day and night skiing and riding! Snowmaking ops were fired up last night following the night session!
