Snowmaking Resumes!!!

It’s not yet 5pm on Friday afternoon and yet we’re seeing the snowguns blasting at Sugar Mountain and Ski Beech!  That IS great news!  We looked around a little via the webcams and we’re not seeing any snowmaking activity quite yet at Hawksnest where the temperature is 37° nor at Appalachian where the current temp is 41°.  Ski Beech is showing 31° and that triggered the snowmaking equipment quicker than we’ve seen all season long.  VERY COOL!

Sugar Mountain is making snow on most of their trails and has begun making snow on the Big Red slope as well.

We looked around and Cataloochee and Wolf Ridge are not cold enough just yet and are not making snow.  None of the Virginia resorts are cold enough at this hour.  Wintergreen is reporting 41° right now on the mountain.

Timberline and Canaan Valley are showing 34° so the guns will fire any second up that way.

It is 37° at Wisp Resort in Garrett County, Maryland and none of their many webcams are showing snowmaking as yet, but that should happen most anytime.

Temperatures were expected to drop late this evening such that might possibly allow for some snowmaking, so it is great news to see the colder air filtering in sooner than expected. If the resorts can make snow all or most of the night (if crazy inversions stay away) that will make for some better than expected conditions on Saturday.  Saturday night is expected to provide for additional snowmaking ops…and of course some light snow is expected Sunday through mid week next week and really cold, sweet temps for an extended number of days.

That is great news for all of us.  Keep up the COLD thoughts!
