We posted a note that came straight from Ski Beech earlier on Wednesday that stated that they were making snow with the idea that they would only open when they had consistent conditions that would offer their customers consistent conditions.  Well this afternoon, they obviously now feel after being able to make snow all day and hopefully this evening that they can provide those consistent conditions on Friday!

One look at the forecast and it appears that they should be able to make snow tonight as temps should drop into the teens with some natural snow accumulating as well. If the forecast holds, Beech should see a high of only around 28 degrees on Thursday (more snowmaking) and a low Thursday night of around 25.  With nearly around-the-clock snowmaking ops Ski Beech should have some pretty good conditions on the trails that they decide to open with.

According to Gil Adams up at Ski Beech, "The 2007-2008 Ski Season will begin Friday morning, December 7, 2007, and we have a special discount of half-priced day, or twilight, lift tickets for qualifying groups this weekend.  We will open for skiing on Friday morning with Upper and Lower Shawneehaw down through Freestyle and the Playyard with lifts number 3,4, 5 and the J-bar scheduled to operate. We will be open for both day and night skiing through Sunday night, and a decision about skiing during the week next week will be made later this week. The snow on the mountain looks real good, and we are excited about getting out there to enjoy it. See you on the hill."

What’s New at Ski Beech for 2007-2008!

One of the more noticeable changes at Beech this season will be within their terrain park area (called "The Meadows". According to Gil Adams, We will have several new terrain park features and a staff to maintain the park. We have graded flat our old half-pipe to make room for this “new” terrain park.

Ski Beech was the first High Country ski area to allow snowboards, and they built a half-pipe before any other area had any park-like features. However, according to Adams. "For the past couple of seasons we felt as if we were falling behind in what some of our boarders and skiers wanted in a terrain park, so we decided to step up and move in a direction that we hope will bring new fun and excitement to our terrain park."

During the off-season of 2006, like numerous ski resorts in the region, Ski Beech beefed up (and spent more than $850,000) on their snowmaking capabilities! They replaced snowmaking equipment along numerous trails including Oz Run, Upper and Lower Shawneehaw and the Meadow. This provides Beech the ability to make snow quicker on The Oz Run, which is not only a crowd favorite, but serves to dissipate the crowds on busier days.

Five new airless snow making machines arrived at Ski Beech in mid-October (of 2006) to add to the arsenal of snow making equipment.
