Even though snowsports are NOT a summer activity, I have always thought of New Years as the ‘Fourth of July’ for us winter sports enthusiasts. From Fireworks to Bonfires . . . there are many similarities, with festive cheer to be had. This is really an opportunity for ski resorts to shine and showcase their special events toward the end of their ‘holiday period’.
The skiing/riding may not be ideal today, but put another ‘notch’ in your belt and get some runs in. Stick around, and dance the night away in ski boots . . . on second thought, maybe a different pair of kicks!
All NC resorts open today . . . Two have special NYE events.
- Appalachian Ski Mountain: 10 runs and 5 lifts. Open until MIDNIGHT tonight. App NYE
- Beech Mountain: 9 runs and 6 lifts. Open until 9pm tonight. Two events at Beech Mountain Tonight . . . Family NYE and Soul Play NYE
- Cataloochee: 11 runs and 5 lifts. Open until 10pm tonight. Tube World open until 10pm as well.
- Sapphire Valley: Special Hours of 9am – 5pm for Skiing/Riding. 10am – 4pm for Tubing.
- Wolf Ridge: 4 runs and 3 lifts. Open until 10pm. Tubing open as well.
All VA resorts open today . . . All have NYE special events!
- Bryce: 7 runs and 3 lifts today. Many events including . . . Torchlight Ski-Down NYE
- Massanutten: 5 runs and 5 lifts today. Open until 9pm. TUBING is SOLD OUT TODAY. Many events throughout the day and night . . . Massanutten NYE
- Omni Homestead: 2 runs and 2 lifts. Open for skiing/riding until 4:30pm. Many events formal and informal events . . . Omni NYE
- Wintergreen: 10 runs and 4 lifts today. Open until 9pm for skiing and riding. Many events throughout the day and night . . . Wintergreen NYE
All WV resorts open today . . . Two resorts to Ring in the New Year
- Canaan Valley: 19 runs and 3 lifts, open until 6pm. Ice Skating open until MIDNIGHT!
- Snowshoe: “Hasn’t lost one trail!” . . . 47 runs and (all) 14 lifts. Many events at the ‘Shoe . . . Snowshoe NYE
- Timberline: 6 runs and 2 lifts. Open for skiing/riding until 9pm.
- Winterplace: Holding steady with 15 runs and 6 lifts. Open until 9pm.
Wisp to ring in 2019!
- Wisp: 13 runs and 7 lifts. Open until 9pm. Three places on the mountain to celebrate . . . Wisp NYE
No events at Ober, but still a FUN place to be . . .
- Ober: Open until 10pm on 3 runs and 2 lifts. TUBING sessions are SOLD OUT until Sunday, January 6th.
