Going into its eighteenth year, the Virginia Ski and Snowboard Team at Wintergreen VA Resort is a highly competitive group of young people who, though superb coaching and training at Wintergreen Resort, have developed the discipline and skills to set and reach their VA Ski goals. This wonderful program teaches youth the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship while fostering within them a healthy spirit of competition. The values instilled into these children by Wintergreen Ski Resort’s coaches and trainers will carry over into their academic lives, and eventually into their personal and professional lives, as well. Race parents and families also develop close bonds as they work together to support their racers through such activities as traveling together and volunteering at events and races. The cost to participate in this Virginia Ski and Snowboard team is $550 a year.

You may be wondering how one qualifies for Wintergreen VA Resort’s Virginia Ski and Snowboard Team. The simple answer is that all of its members have spent one year or more on the Developmental Ski Race Team, where children ages seven through thirteen learn the art of Virginia Skiing from certified coaches who specialize in teaching young children to VA Ski. Each member of the Wintergreen Resort’s Developmental Ski Race Team must meet a list of requirements in order to be eligible to be part of this esteemed group. In addition to age requirements, each member must be able to ski stop on any of Wintergreen VA’s Virginia Ski Slopes with his or her skis in a parallel position. Members must able to tackle all of Virginia Ski Areas at Wintergreen with no assistance, they must know how to ride the VA Ski lifts properly, prove their maturity by exhibiting the ability to listen to coaches and be disciplined enough to put forth their best effort at all times during trainings, must be able to set their own goals, and be able to attend at least half of this Virginia Ski and Snowboard Team’s training sessions and, during their first year, a week-long camp that takes place just after Christmas. Finally, all who qualify for membership on this Virginia Ski and Snowboard Team at Wintergreen Resort Virginia must successfully complete a tryout and be approved by a coach or director. The cost to join this Virginia Ski and Snowboard Team is $550, annually.

The Freeride Team is another Virginia Ski and Snowboard Team that meets and trains at Wintergreen Resort, VA. This program is open to both those with a penchant for Virginia Skiing and those who love Snowboarding in Wintergreen Virginia. To qualify, skiers and riders must meet the following criteria: Membership to this Virginia Ski and Snowboard team is limited to children ages eight to eighteen who are independent on Wintergreen Resort, VA’s Virginia Ski Mountains. Participants must know how to use Wintergreen’s lifts properly; they must convey a sense of maturity by exhibiting good listening habits and self-discipline during trainings. Snowboarders who are interested in this Wintergreen Resort Virginia Ski and Snowboard Team must be able to link heel and toe side turns to control speed, and skiers should be able to stop anywhere on Wintergreen Ski Resort’s Virginia Ski Slopes with their skis in a parallel position. The cost to join this Virginia Ski and Snowboard Team is $450 per year.
