Ober Mountain may be Tennessee’s only ski area, but there is much more to do than winter snow sports! Located in the resort town of Gatlinburg TN, skiing at Ober Mountain is just one of literally hundreds of exciting things to do in the area. The Aerial Tramway, Ice Skating, Scenic Chairlift, and Alpine Slide are just a few of the elements that make Ober Mountain such a unique place to visit.
Begin your adventure at Ober Mountain by taking a scenic ride on The Aerial Tramway. Come soar 2.1 miles from downtown Gatlinburg and experience a 1472-
foot rise in elevation, as you ride to the mountaintop destination. The two 120 passenger counter-balanced cars provide an amazing aerial experience for all ages, from the young to the young at heart. The Aerial Tramway departs from downtown Gatlinburg and will whisk you up directly to the Amusement Park and Ski Area. The highest point off the ground, during the Tram ride, is about 300 ft!
Open year-round, the centerpiece of Ober Mountain’s Mountain Mall, the massive 140’ x 75’ indoor ice arena features Ice Skating and The Ice Bumper Cars. Ober Mountain offers over 400 pairs of rentals skates available for adults and children, from a Toddler Size 6 through Adult Size 15. With shopping and dining inside the mall as well, refreshments are never far away.
While visiting Ober Mountain, you won’t want to miss a ride on the Scenic Chairlift. One of the most peaceful rides at the ski area, the Scenic Chairlift allows you to see the best view of the Smokies without hiking. It provides an impressive 779-foot rise in elevation above the park and at 3019 feet in length, it is the longest Chairlift of its kind in the United States. This smooth ride takes you to the peak of Mt. Harrison at 3455 feet above sea level… more than 1650 feet higher than any other chairlift in Gatlinburg or the entire state of TN! A ride on the Alpine Slide at Ober Mountain is one of the most unforgettable experiences you can have during your visit. Take the scenic chairlift up to the midway point to the alpine slide and get ready to have some fun! Sled along these two 1800-foot tracks that weave their way through various kinds of terrain and are each equipped with braking devices, so that you can speed up or slow down as you choose.
