Some of you may notice a difference in the ski report today. Mike is on the road to attend a media event at Wisp Ski Resort in Maryland. He asked me to update the ski reports today and I must admit, he does a much better job. He will be checking in as soon as he arrives at his destination this afternoon and will make corrections or changes if needed.
As a skier, I know we live for snow. The more there is, the longer the season. But let’s be honest, there is nothing like a day with great snow and mild temperatures; a day that doesn’t require layers and layers of clothing. Today is one of those days.
Hawksnest is reporting a current temperature of 46 with highs in the mid 50s and a low tonight of 26. They’ll be open tonight and tomorrow night until midnight. They are the only NC slope to stay open until midlnight on Friday and Saturday nights. Sounds like a perfect night to take advantage of more hours on the snow. They have a terrific terrain park and tubing is open.
Beech is almost fully open with 14 of 15 slopes open (only Oz on the back side is closed) and 8 of 10 lifts operating. Currently the temperature is 36 and most clear. The temperatures today will be in the upper 40s. Clear skies, mild temperatures, a good base, and packed powder makes for some great skiing today. Beech’s ice rink is open and after watching Skating With the Celebrities, I’m ready to lace up!
Cataloochee is celebrating Military Appreciation Days this Saturday and Sunday for military personnel (with a valid ID) and their families. Let’s all join Cataloochee in saluting the men and women in our armed forces who bravely serve and protect our country. It’s currently 27 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Highs will be in the 50s today. Cataloochee has 10 slopes and their terrain park open. They will be night skiing tonight and for all you non-skiers, their tubing run is open.
Sugar is the only slope in NC reporting new man-made snow. They have 18 slopes open and are reporting groomed conditions. Temperatures will be in the 50s there today under cloudy skies. They will be making snow as the temperature allows.
