Ok so I know this will most likely sound like the stupidest question to you guys but I don't know who else to ask. I'm going for Mexican food and looking for a good place near Maggie Valley. I don't know of any and I can't think of a more knowledgable crew than you guys. Any suggestions cause I'm clueless?

Look for the SkiNC sticker on the billboard out front.

Go to Waynesville and go to Los Tamales. No mixed drinks, and less the party atmosphere, but food is about nine times as good.

I'll take each and every one of you on with a green chili guacamole gordita topped with roasted pepper salsa and crumbled queso blanco in one hand and my other hand tied behind my back.

OK, seriously, here are your choices:

Maggie Valley: Guayabitos is the only spot, though there is a Cuban place, of course that's nothing like Mexican

Waynesville: Culturally and socially superior town in every respect, it has four Mexican restaurants: Guayabitos, Los Tamales, Los Amigos, and Maria's Pueblo; there's a fifth, if you are in town late on a Saturday: an honest to goodness taco cart operates in front of REO night club.

Canton: One dumpy place, stay far away

Bethel: El Pobre, not bad, but not worth the drive if you're in Maggie

Too be fair, I don't think snowboarderfaith imbibes in the spirits so that kills a lot of the Guayabitos attraction right there. And, 'bitos food is allright but its not THAT great. Having checked out porter's recipes, I would go anyplace that he said was good. May have to check out Los Tamales on the return trip from the Nant. myself one afternoon.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm in the area all summer so I'm sure I'll hit most of those places porter listed. But I think I'll have to be true to the SkiNC fav and go to Guayabitos for the first time.
