The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.

We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

We really hope you all will join us on Discord and think you will like the platform. Use the invite link below to join.

I think you are spot on. Don't forget about da Wolf! Really feel for the ski areas.
I'm sure they have endured years like this before, BUT how many consecutive years can they take if this continues?

Luckily they had some business this week, for the next 10 days are going to really suck!Seems like each Winter gets wimpier,I need to find a voodoo woman that doesn't mind cold weather to cast a spell for a mini ice age!

I say the only ski area in NC to maybe make through this April like January is App because they are small enough to build a good base!As far as north from here I say only WP,SS and Wisp make it through this ridiculous weather!

"But how many consecutive years can they take if this continues?" If this kind of weather gets worse, will there still be ski ares in the south 20 years from now?

I don't want to sound like a Cassandra, hell, I learned to ski in these mountains and I Patrolled (after I got kicked out for pooching the field at Cat and figured out where the fun really was...).

But...

I worked in Antarctica for 12 years. I talked to real honest to gawd scientist. To put it in terms we all get.

There will be good winters, there will be bad winters, then the long range weather will go for 70 to 80 years to a steady pattern.

So, ski as much as you can where ever you can. As long as you can.

Kendog, how bad was App? We were thinking about possibly heading up this weekend for a night session.

It wasn't bad at all but had less snow than I thought it would. With another week of warm and rain I doubt it'll be that great this weekend.
WOOOOOO!
