Snowboarders and Free Skiers will compete at a level that could take them to Nationals

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (Feb 2, 2018) — The Southeastern Series takes their show on the road and makes a stop at Ober Gatlinburg this Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 4th.

Ober Gatlinburg will host this terrain park event, which is a regional qualifier for the USASA National Championships which will be held in April at Copper Mtn. Colorado.

Snowboarding and Skiing Athletes are invited to compete at Ober Gatlinburg’s first USASA Sanctioned Snow Sports event. USASA will be providing judges and amazing prizes including a new “Never Summer” snowboard. During this “Slopestyle” event, each rider/skier will two attempts to showcase their skill and compete to win. The combined score will establish placement. Features will be safe, but a challenge for intermediate to advanced level athletes. Awards will be given for 1st-3rd place, but plenty of prizes will be given out.

Unlike many of the other “just for fun” events held on our slopes during the winter, the USASA Southeastern Series offers a direct path towards a young athlete progressing to a higher level. USASA the largest grassroots freeski and snowboard organization in the world. The Southeastern Series is the newest regional series to join 32 other series across the United States. With over 6,000 members and nearly 600 events nationwide, USASA serves as the main entry point for the competition pipeline that ultimately leads to the professional level, Dew Tour, X Games, World Cup, the Olympics, etc. With this being an Olympic year, it’s important to note that every single member of this year’s US Snowboard Team got their competitive start in a USASA event.

Event Information:
Registration for this event begins at 8:30am-11:00am
Rider’s meeting 11:30, course inspection immediately after. Competition starts at 1:00. Awards Ceremony will take place at 4pm.

REQUIREMENTS:
* USASA Membership (Single-day memberships are $35, annual memberships are $100, athlete must retain an annual membership to accumulate points)
* $40 Event Fee
* Ski Area Lift Ticket (special $43 price full-day ticket for competitors only)
* Helmet
* Provide your own equipment
