Today could be called a ‘manufactured’ holiday . . . or . . . it could be a day to HIT THE SLOPES. However you look at it, it’s gonna be a pretty awesome day all around.

Just a touch of snowfall to report . . . Canaan, Snowshoe, and Timberline got half an inch. Many of the other resorts were right on the cusp of making snow . . . some did, some didn’t. Either way, it’s not a BIG impact, since most of the region is going to be a bit on the warm-side today.

The region as a whole might be slightly above average temps the next couple of days, but keep in mind February/March are some of the SNOWIEST months of the year.

Crush it today! . . . just don’t crush any hearts.

The Mountain State is showing some of its love today

  • Canaan: Loves their Skate Date and V-Day Dinner
    • “Snow makers were hard at work throughout yesterday and overnight . . .
    • Slope news: “This afternoon we will re-open Timber Trail and Critter Crawl . . . We will also be re-building our park in Meadows 1 and Ramble & Valley Vista are looking great!”
    • Today we will be having a Sweet Heart Skate Date in our ice rink from 10a-9p w/ complimentary hot choc. and a couples photo. Additionally, there will be a Valentines Dinner for 2 tonight in the Hickory Dining Room from 5p-9p.
  • Snowshoe: What’s not to Love about Snowshoe!!!
    • “Happy Valentine’s day from Snowshoe Mountain!”
    • Park laps today . . . “Milder temps today will produce some some soft conditions great for the hitting the park and building your skills.”
    • Good temps for grooming . . . “Overnight temperatures have been dipping low enough for our groomers to get things back in pristine condition.”
    • Groomed on all runs except (difficult) Knot Bumper and Flying Eagle
  • Winterplace: Loves their College students/faculty/staff
    • Open on 25 runs served by 5 lifts until 10pm
    • Currently 30F . . . High of 52F today. Forecast: Mostly sunny throughout the day.
    • For all you college lovebirds . . . Collegiate Thursdays
  • Timberline: Loves Salamander!
    • Open on 5 Trails, 1 lift on a 12-24″ groomed base.
    • Trails include: (easy) Crossroads, Upper and Lower Salamander, Timberline, and Whiteout.

NC is going to love their ‘spring-like’ weather today

  • Cataloochee: LOVES their snowmaking team! . . .
    • “It takes a special group of individuals to be snowmakers, to work most of the time in what we would consider less than ideal weather conditions to make your on snow experience the best it can be.  They are mostly unseen here at the area, either on the hill day or night, in the best (and worst) of weather, moving guns, checking temps, making the wheels of the area turn.  So today we thank our snowmaking team.  They work diligently to get the hill ready for you each day along with all our lift and maintenance personnel.  And thanks to all of them – we have an amazing amount of snow on the hill for the upcoming three day weekend.  We have said it before – don’t let the forecast worry you.  We have the snow.”
    • 4″ Base-Depth Increase in 24hrs . . . “Today we are skiing on a 73-107″ base on 16 slopes.”
  • Beech: Loves their ladies . . . “Every Thursday night starting January 3rd, is Ladies Night! $15 night slope pass for all the ladies. Bring your friends and meet other ladies on the hill!” (5-9pm)
    • Base depth increase . . . 36-70″ PACKED POWDER / Groomed base with 13 runs and 5 lifts open.
    • Tubing and Ice Skating have re-opened
