It’s cold out this morning! Here’s a quick tour as I am headed out for first tracks at 8:15am this morning! I’ll update more in depth as time allows later today! One quick statement of the obvious is that conditions today will be remarkable better than just 24 hours ago no matter where you go!  I was just looking at a 7:20am view of Hawksnest and they look VERY, VERY well groomed, snowy and inviting as heck so get away from this computer and go ski and ride!

We’ll start with North Carolina and move up today!

NORTH CAROLINA REPORT:

Appalachian Ski Mountain – 14° – That is 31° colder than just 24 hours ago when it was 45° (yea I did the math for you guys!) App reported a TRACE of snow and of course is blasting the trails with snowmaking for what should be a great Sunday of skiing. App will turn the guns off during sessions today and restart them this evening around 8pm. (That shows you just how good of base they have!)

Cataloochee reported an inch of new snow and will open today with 7 trails (down one from yesterday). They have a good base with some thin coverage, but now covered with some new snow! They are open for day skiing today!

Hawksnest – 12° and reporting 2" of new snow. They dropped 2 trails from Saturday’s open tally and now offer 6 slopes and tubing. They had not filed a report as of yet this morning and we can’t say whether or not they made snow.

Sugar Mountain – 8° this morning after 2" of snow and lots of snowmaking they will be in sweet shape with 18 trails open, tubing and terrain park as well. It’s a great day to be at Sugar.

VIRGINIA REPORT:

Bryce has 6 trails open and there’s no report of snow or snowmaking this AM.

Massanutten has not updated their report as yet so we’ll stick with where they were yesterday according to the SSAA report.

Wintergreen had not updated their report as well, but according to the SSAA report they have the same 16 trails open and made snow as well. They had some natural snow but we don’t have a report as to how much as yet!

WEST VIRGINIA REPORT:

Canaan Valley – 12° this morning with 6" of wind-blown snow reported and 16 trails open for today!

Snowshoe Mountain – 5° and reporting 2" of new snow, but man it seemed like more. Drifts are pretty deep in spots! They have 58 trails open with powder and groomed conditions after a night full of snowmaking. Snowshoe is expected to see more snow today through Monday!

Timberline Resort – no report as yet. They have 27 trails open according to the SSAA.

Winterplace has 12° and 2" of new snow with 100% of their 28 trails open! Great conditions for them today!

Wisp Resort – NO REPORT but had 28 trails open yesterday so we’ll go with that.

It’s 22° and Ober Gatlinburg had one-half inch of snow and 5 trails open until 7pm this evening when they will close for the season.

Until Next time…
