Area Description:

Hawksnest Ski Resort has long been a favorite of locals and visitors for numerous reasons.  Chief among them is the fact that they offer terrain that is challenging for all skill levels of skiers and snow boarders.  Nearly 20% of their terrain is dedicated to beginners, and 33% to advanced skiers.

You will love Sock-Em-Dog, Right Stuff, Chicken Hawk, Merlin, Narrow Gauge and Raven's Run. These slopes offer skiers and snowboarders diverse trails for top-to-bottom fun and excitement.

What's New for 2006-2007

Hawksnest has installed a new conveyor lift for beginner skier within the Kitty Hawk area. The new not only makes it easier for beginners to get back to the top of the bunny slope, it also allowed Hawksnest to enlarge the beginner area.

Hawksnest also moved their snow tubing conveyor closer to the tubing runs to make it easier to use.

Terrain Park Additions! Hawksnest added numerous hits and features on the Sock 'em Dog trail last season that made for some great, new excitement in the terrain park...and they haven't stopped their! Hawksnest added 3 more boxes - a batteship, rainbow and roller coaster box...as well as a battleship rail.  Richard Rominger was hired prior to this season to design and maintain the park area.

Play for less...when it SNOWS...and Help a Great Cause!

Snow Days Rates - $8 Day ticket, $4 rental rates and $1 of each snow day lift will be donated to Watauga Education Foundation

Ladies Ski Free on Wednesday's - Wednesday's in Jan & Feb - Ladies receive a free day or night lift ticket

Hawksnest was among the first resorts in the region to open to snowboarders! The terrain park features were aligned along the Sock em Dog trail this past winter and they plan to make even more tweaks and additions to it for the 2006-2007 season.

The park is a big part of the mountain so a lot of thought and care go into it. They have purchased some new rails for the upcoming season...10, 15 & 20 foot flat rails, 28 ft flat-down-flat rail, 15 ft flat-down rail, & a 20 ft battleship rail.

If you are just starting out or wanting to learn new tricks, the Snowboard Instructors are well qualified to teach with a number of Snowboarding contest wins under their belts. Hawksnest is also home to a number of contests each year which are fun for competitors and spectators alike.

Attention to Details! - Hawksnest Ski Resort has added a new Piston Bully Edge Park groomer in 2005. This new groomer has specific attachments for terrain park features.

With the addition of another groomer they will be closing from 4:30pm until 6pm seven days a week. This will ensure great conditions for the night sessions. SkiNC and SkiSoutheast visitors reported much improved snow quality during the 2005-2006 season and you can look for more of the same this season!

Hawksnest is FUN! - Friday & Saturday night Hawksnest is the only resort open until midnight with the ultimate ski session in the South called NIGHTHAWK! The happening spot for skiing lights up for late night!

Snow Tubing is great with a 400 foot long tubing park!

On-Snow Reporter Notes:

Skiing and riding at Hawksnest is one of the best kept secrets in the Southeast.  For a number of reasons, lift lines are almost non-existent at this resort except on the busiest of holiday weekends. While the trails are not as long as its closest neighbors ski areas such as Ski Beech and Sugar Mountain, they ARE very challenging and locals will tell you that Hawksnest offers some of the coolest and most challenging runs in the region.  The lack of over-crowded lift lines and slopes makes Hawksnest of favorite of local skiers and snowboarders.

The views are great, the terrain park offers some good rails and jumps, and the overall experience is definitely one that we'd suggest you try out.

Families love the snow tubing park as it offers one of the best roller coaster-like runs around.

Hawksnest has announced some aggressive improvements, but they were squashed by the Town of Seven Devils.  We are hoping that they can resolve whatever issues are prohibiting them from adding slopes and additional amenities. Regardless, give Hawksnest a try...you'll like it.
