Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone…

A great weekend is now behind us and we’re in for another roller coaster of a week – weatherwise.

In the North Carolina mountains…Today will be rainy and raw, with highs near 40° and overnight lows that MIGHT allow for a snowgun or two to crank up, but it is doubtful. The rest of the week looks decent, but mild with mostly clear skies except for a chance of light rain Wednesday night and temperatures near 60° on Tuesday, low 50a on Wednesday and then overnight lows Wednesday night dive into the 20s. That should get the snowguns cranked back up and then Thursday, Friday and Saturday look like good days for skiing or riding with highs in the 30s and 40s and lows in the 20s. Right now the weekend is looking a little "iffy" but we’ll hold off and allow meteorologist, Brad Panovich to do his thing later today and update us. Saturday, February 19 – Monday, February 21 is President’s Day Holiday Weekend and we’ll leave the important forecasting to the pro!

In the Virginias we should see about the same…with maybe 5° colder temps overnight Wednesday and into the weekend (10° colder at Snowshoe) and that should make for a little snow at the higher elevations Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Slope Conditions for the Week – This little bit of rain today won’t really have too much of an effect on base depths at the resorts, it will certainly make for wet granular conditions most everywhere. Things will be loose Tuesday and Wednesday as milder temps come in and then the cold snap due mid week will serve to freeze things up. The snowmakers and groomers will do their things and conditions should be pretty sweet from mid-week on through at least the first part of the weekend.

Accommodations-R-US – We routinely get a lot of requests about where to stay and we have an extensive list of lodging recommendations on our website. We posted a feature business spotlight on one great vacation rental company which specializes in rentals on Sugar Mountain and hope that you’ll give those people your business. Additionally, if you are planning a trip up this weekend, we want to recommend the following vacation rental.

The place is called A Slice of Heaven and once you see it, you will understand why. They offer two uniquely beautiful vacation rentals located with high elevation views of the mountains below and are convenient to Hawksnest and Sugar Mountain ski areas…and are equally close to Ski Beech and Boone! Visit their website at: http://www.asliceofheaven.com They have availability for this weekend! Call quick and tell them that you saw them on Ski North Carolina!

Stay dry today and we’ll see you on the slopes!
