Lorrie Tomlinson Reports from Hawksnest on Friday:

On Friday, the temperature never made it above low 20s. Many people visited Hawksnest to enjoy the opening of Top Gun. Around noon, the Park Bully was observed moving a new rail to the bottom of the terrain park. The park is well maintained and looks perfect. Hawksnest is hosting a Crescent Ski Council race this weekend and conditions are incredible. The tubing area looks great also. At the end of the day, the talk in the lodge centered around the upcoming snow storm..

Christian Davies reports from Snowshoe:

I drove up for the weekend with the forecast predicting 1-2 feet of snow up here!  I don’t know where they’ll put all the snow if it comes!  The surrounding forests are full of snow and we actually took the lead that the SkiSoutheast.com guys did when they showed a photo of the day of a family off the sides of the slopes taking in a snowball fight.  My wife and I and some friends did the same thing and I have to tell you that we had a blast.  Thanks SkiSoutheast! The conditions are the best I have ever skied on the east coast!  Tons of snow, perfect conditions across all trails and The Cupp Run was one amazing hill!  There were no lift lines and I can’t believe I’m here for the whole weekend.  The forecast is calling for 8-12” here, but regardless, this place rocks!

Tina Bledson reports from Timberline:

I had never skied here before but after doing some photo of the day dreaming, my boyfriend and I hit it up. All I can say is that Timberline is kind of a laid back ski area that suits my tastes perfectly.  No crowds, lots of snow and pretty cool terrain.  We didn’t get to ski half the trails that were open and the conditions were perfect.  They are calling for heavy snow here on Saturday so all we can say is yahooooo!

On-Snow Reporters:

We will keep a log of the best reporter’s submission, photos and reports. Trust us it is way to time consuming to post every pic…but send them…because we are tallying the scores.  The winner of the Best On Snow Reporter for 2005-2006 will win $1000 in cash, a FREE Getaway Vacation and more.  The contest will run from now through March 1st and we will choose the winner.  Our choice will be based on the following and IN THE ORDER of importance.

Quality of Photos

Quality of Reports (well written, informative, unbiased)

Number of Photo Submissions

Number of Reports

Extra points will be given for getting smiling faces in the photos and including names and cities where you can.

Extra points will be awarded for creative ideas.

We will choose the winner based on how helpful and informative the reports have been.

As of 02/11/2006 here are the top vote getters. (We will only document the top three to five here throughout the season…and we may begin posting the top ten, depending on how close results are.)

We have a very close race going right now with only a few points (a day or two of posts) separately the top three.
