We’ll do two updates today. We’ve received a lot of emails from people asking "HOW MUCH SNOW HAS FALLEN SINCE JANUARY 1ST" and we’ve spoken with many people addressing that very subject. So let’s do a quick tour this morning, address the snowfall numbers since January 1st and then provide some information per resort and then we’ll be providing another update later today with more news and information.

January Snowfall:
Boone/Blowing Rock – 11"
Beech and Sugar Mountain – 16.5"
Wolf Ridge – 11.7"
Cataloochee – 14"

Seasonal numbers are:
Appalachian Ski Mountain – 38.5"
Beech Mountain Resort – 49"
Cataloochee Ski Area – 34"
Sapphire Valley – 9"
Sugar Mountain – 46"
Wolf Ridge Resort – 38"

Let’s go to the tour:

Appalachian Ski Mountain – 0° – 100% open – Reporting a jump in base depth from 78" on Sunday to 95" this morning. Appalachian is reporting a base of 95-120" of snow! That is a MINIMUM BASE of EIGHT FEET and a maximum of TEN FEET across all 11 trails. They have all three terrain parks and ice skating open.

Beech Mountain Resort – 18° – (It’s warmer at the higher elevations in NC this morning) – No new snow but they saw about 3" of snow over the weekend and 22.5" since January 1st and 49" on the season. Beech is basically 100% open even though they are reflecting 14 of 15 trails on their trail map. They only thing NOT open right now is the area that they intended to be their dedicated terrain park. They cut that area two off seasons ago but have not been able to make that happen just yet. Beech DOES have some impressive rails and boxes on the Powder Bowl trail as it comes off of Lower Shawneehaw. OZ IS OPEN contrary to some reports otherwise on the messageboard and via emails to us.

Cataloochee Ski Area – 7° – 100% open for DAY SKIING ONLY on Monday. Tubing is closed til Thursday. Cat is reporting a 65-107" base. Cat Cage Terrain Park is open.

Wolf Ridge Resort – 10° – They are 100% open and offer tubing and terrain park open as well. Wolf is reporting a base of 67-86" of groomed conditions. Wolf has seen 11.7" of snow since January 1st and 38" on the season.

Sapphire Valley – 12° – They are open from 5pm-9pm on Monday with BOTH trails and The Frozen Falls Tubing Park open. Here’s their schedule for the week.

Monday: 5pm -9pm
Friday: Noon-9pm
Saturday: 9am-9pm
Sunday: 9am-6pm

MLK Weekend Hours:
Saturday, January 16th: 9:00 am to 9:00 pm
Sunday, January 17th: 9:00 am to 9:00 pm
