Weather

Stay up to date by getting notified of new posts!

Temperatures this morning are all over the place across the Southeast’s ski resorts.

We got a few emails when we forecasted that areas North, into Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland would see snowmaking temps and others wouldn’t, but that what has happened overnight and this morning.  Check out the temps as of 6:20am.

Beech Mountain is reporting 40°
Sugar Mountain 43°
Appalachian Ski Mountain 38°

Wisp Resort in Maryland is showing 22°
Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia saw 21°

Winterplace Resort 30°
Canaan and Timberline Resorts 25°
Wintergreen Resort in Virginia 25°

Depending on where you live in the Southeast, and if you are a snow or ski enthusiast, this isn’t your kind of forecast.  Some areas like Wisp Resort in Maryland got into the low 20s and were able to make snow. Others were not.

Here’s a breakdown of the forecasts by area:

Speaking of Wisp:

The High Today should be around 40° under Partly Cloudy skies.  Since they made snow and saw overnight lows in the low 20s, they will have some very nice conditions.  I was privy to a snowmaking tour yesterday at Wisp and they said that with their automated, state of the art system, that if conditions were perfect they could make up to one foot of snow on ALL of their slopes in one day.  I expect that put down at least a couple of inches. Sunday Night’s low will be in the upper 20s.

Monday shows a chance for light rain and highs near normal… 39° and a low Monday night of 22°.

Jumping around – Let’s move to the North Carolina Mountains:

We’re looking at periods of rain in the North Carolina Mountains on Sunday with the high around 41°.  Overnight lows around 38°.

Monday will offer some mix of sun and clouds…and a little drizzle here and there.  Highs on Monday will be near 50°.  Monday night MIGHT get cold enough to make snow as the low should get near 31°.

Next we’ll go to Snowshoe Mountain:

Snowshoe is at 21° this morning. They should see a fair amount of sun today but maybe a shower or two.  Highs today should be around 33-35° and the low Sunday night may dip to freezing.

Monday will be a little wetter with highs near 40° and lows in the snowmaking low to mid 20s.

Since we’re into West Virginia, let’s cover Ghent and Davis (home to Winterplace , Timberline and Canaan Valley):

Winterplace looks like they have a 50% chance of light rain today and a little more on Monday.  Highs Sunday will be near 40° and Monday in the low to mid 40s.  Lows Sunday night should be in the mid to upper 30s.  Monday night gets into the mid 20s.

Canaan and Timberline:

Looks like a bit more sun than rain here on Sunday…still a chance for a light shower or two.  Highs Sunday should be near 40°.  Sunday night’s lows in the upper 20s or so.

Monday will be a bit wet with light rains and highs in the mid to upper 30s and lows Monday night in the low to mid 20s.

If you’re going to Wintergreen Resort you’re in luck today since skies will be partly cloudy early with increasing clouds later in the day.  Highs should be around 40°.  Sunday night lows should be near freezing.

Monday gets a little wet with a chance of rain and highs in the low 40s, and Monday night’s low should be in the mid to upper 20s
