On Snow

Went up to Ober Gatlinburg today and ran into a larger crowd than I imagined would be there. Talked to the ski school people and they said it’s been like that the past couple of days. You could really see the effect of it on the snow. Very choppy and soft. This is the kind of snow that will just catch an edge and toss you into the snow, no matter how good you are. Very much like mash taters.

Still had good side to side coverage and in most spots great depth. Castle run in developing some brown spots and all few bare spots at the top, slope right and at the lift tower in the middle of the slope. Cub Way and Ski School were both still holding up great and looking good considering the warmth. With the crowd and being down to 1 chairlift the wait was a little annoying but not too bad. I think the longest I waited to load was about 5 mins in the busiest part of the day.

With the rain things will become very iffy very quickly but they are ready and waiting with guns already in place for the cold to return next week. If you go this week or the week after Christmas…be patient.

The current base they have was built off of 3 days of snowmaking…that ended 12 days ago. Considering I think it’s pretty darn good conditions.

Merry Christmas!!!
