Cataloochee – November 24, 2007 – We arrived at Cataloochee Saturday morning just before the lifts started. The snow guns were on in huge numbers on Lower Omigosh, Easy Way and Rabbit Hill. If Lower Omigosh had been groomed it had been during the night and more snow had been made over the groomed surface. The surface was typically sticky man-made “powder”. There were some very nice rollers under the guns to play on! The advertised 16”-22” base was very evident – my pole could easily go in the full 22” advertised and then some. Lift lines were pretty much non-existent for the entire morning. We might have waited a couple of minutes at the longest. The crowd was actually larger than the lift line suggested, though. The bumps on Lower Omigosh and Rabbit Hill had quite a few folks carefully working their way through them and at times we had to pick our way through slower traffic. We kept the morning session short and left by 11:30 or so, but returned for some night skiing. By the time we returned, the snow had become very firmly packed with some almost icy spots. It was still very skiable and a lot of fun. The crowd was light – we skied right onto the lift most of the evening – especially after 8:30 or so. We made laps until the lift closed at 10pm and were exhausted, but sorry to leave when the time came.
