Editor's Note:
Our contests have always
been a collaborative effort to help promote winter sports to the
Southeast and Mid Atlantic ski areas. Every year for the past several
years we have given away more than 400 free lift passes each season, and
each year we have also given away at least four vacation cabin rentals.
During the 2006-2007 season we gave away 600 lift passes and 12 separate
log cabin vacations complete with lift tickets, free equipment rentals
and a couple with dining included.
Due only to time constraints we only posted ONE Vacation Cabin Giveaway
for this season and we awarded that to Wits End Vacation Cabins. We also
only provided a few free lift passes and a hand full of equipment
rentals.
Although we had clearance to do as many as 15 cabin rental vacations and
100s of lift passes for the 2007-2008 season, WE made the decision not
to ever announce or post them. The reason was also purely attributed to
timing...this time on the part of Mother Nature.
The season started out terribly for most partner resorts, then the
Christmas Holiday period was not up to par...and it was at that time
that we made the decision to award the ONE announced giveaway and we
literally sent the vast majority of the lift passes back to the resorts
and notified all of them and our contest partners that we simply thought
that it was silly to put people on their mountains for FREE when every
skier visit counted.
THANKFULLY from Christmas forward things turned out great and most all
of the ski resorts have had a great season...but we could not have known
that on January 1st.
In our eleven plus years we have given away several thousands of dollars
worth of free tickets, vacations, equipment rentals and more...and we
will certainly pick that process back up next season if things look good
enough to do it. Our strategy is to do what is best for all partners
concerned and this season we decided that the best for all concerned was
to table the contests past the one that we announced and a few tickets
that we gave away.
Our partner ski areas, ski shops, and vacation rental clients were all
willing to do the contests regardless of the season as a testament to
the job that we do in promoting the industry to the region.
However we wanted to stay TRUE to our relationship to work together to
the total betterment of all partners concerned.
Be sure to check back sometime in September for announcements of new
giveaways for the 2008-2009 season!
