Cold and Snow is On the Way for All of our Ski Areas of the Southeast!

Stay up to date by getting notified of new posts!

The BIG STORY today has to be the weather! Normally it would be that another ski resort drops the ropes to begin their ski season (Ski Beech) but they will have to share the spotlight today. Ski Beech is opening today with FIVE trails and a manmade powder base of 12-26”. Yahoo…more terrain!

More on the resorts in a second. Mother Nature is going to hit us with some bitter cold – cold like we haven’t seen in a couple of seasons in some parts of the Southeast. Additionally some ski areas of the Southeast and Mid Atlantic are going to see some SUBSTANTIAL snowfall. Unfortunately for resorts in North Carolina and Virginia, the heavier snows will stay north around WISP Resort, Snowshoe, Canaan Valley and Timberline where they will see as much as 8” of snow or more! (Some forecasts are showing 8-12” for Snowshoe.) That’s great for the DEMO DAYS crowd that will be up at Snowshoe this weekend.

The rest of us…into Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina WILL see some snow…but more likely in the dusting to 1-2” range…with some isolated pockets of heavier snow…but nothing like further north.

The real story of this arctic blast is the arctic cold and winds that will accompany it. Areas across the higher elevations of the Southeast will be looking at the coldest air in nearly two seasons with highs in the 20s and lows near zero with wind chills below zero Friday night. The weekend ahead looks PERFECT with sunny skies and highs in the 30s and 40s. Check out the weather data in the middle column ON THE FRONT PAGE of both SkiNC and SkiSoutheast.com.

TUNE UP THOSE SKIS AND BOARDS! – This is another perfect spot for another convenient promo this morning. Now that more resorts are open and opening…and now that Mother Nature seems to be ready for consistent Winter… NOW is the time to get your skis and snowboards tweaked, tuned and waxed so that you’ll be riding the snow in perfect harmony! To that end, we have compiled an improved list of ski shops to work with for all of our ski areas. We are still tweaking that content for SkiNorthCarolina.com but we invite you to see the complete list of ski and snowboard shops via www.SkiSoutheast.com CLICK HERE

VIDEOS ARE A HIT!

We want to take a moment to thank everyone who has written about the new video features on the front of both SkiNC.com and SkiSoutheast.com. We are really looking forward to showing off your best video submissions so that all of our visitors can get a test of what it’s really like to ski in the Southeast and Mid Atlantic. We could spend all day giving you the benefits, but we thought we’d share these this morning!

Tom B. in Atlanta wrote: “Guys, I have watched every year and seen your website continue to grow and offer the public more vivid views of what skiing in the South is really like. Your new videos top it all. I have not seen anything like it to create fever and show people how the conditions are. The photos of the day are great, the webcams are super, but nothing does it like the videos! Great job!”

Nancy B, in Baltimore wrote: “I just moved here from Boseman, Montana and someone told me that there was still good skiing around here. I laughed and then they sent me a link to SkiSoutheast.com. The photos and web camera things are great and showed me how right my friend was. However the video that you guys are producing where you take clips from the previous few days really shows people like me that you guys really have great snow and terrain here. I can not wait to ski the south. Who’d have thought!?!”

We had many more, but you get the picture…or video! Now that more resorts are opening and with digital cameras available to most people, we’re really proud to have the staff and expertise to fire out these videos in short order. We agree that NOTHING promotes the resorts like SHOWING people what it’s really like to hear the snowguns, to see the snow and powder flying. Be sure to visit and check out the videos often…and if you have a digital camera…snap some photos and send your videos too to [email protected] (If you wish to share yours and have issues emailing, we can provide you with FTP access to send us your best and we’ll do the rest!)

BACK TO THE SLOPES…

We’re going to wrap up today…and just tell you guys to check the slope conditions report for the ski report from across the region and check back later for photos and video as the snow flies!

Until Next Time…

THINK COLD – THINK SNOW!
