Beech Mountain Resort has announced that, weather permitting, they will open on Friday, November 29, 2013.  So, if all goes to plan next week, Appalachian Ski Mountain will open on Monday or Tuesday and then by the end of the week with Beech’s opening the NC High Country will be in business.

More in opening news, Ober Gatlinburg will open for snow tubing tomorrow, Friday, November 22.  They are having a good ole fashioned shred session to start things off – the Back in Blue Rail Jam where you can shred the tubing park.  Click here for more info, http://www.obergatlinburg.com/event/104/Canaan Valley has also set a tentative date of Saturday, December 14 for their opening day.

In some Olympic news – Lindsey Vonn, the most successful female skier in American history, has retorn the ACL in her right knee 9 months after the crash in Austria that tore her ACL, MCL, and fractured her tibia in the same knee.  If you have not yet seen that crash, you can check it out below.

I heard from our hometown favorites, Bobby and Jarod Bobby and Jarod MinghiniMinghini, yesterday.  They are currently in Finland until the 29th training for the first World Cup and Olympic qualifier which will be held in Austria in December.  If you haven’t heard about the brothers raised atop Snowshoe Mountain yet, check out the story we did on them earlier this month, https://www.skisoutheast.com/articles_4296_Southeast-Olympic-Hopefuls–Bobby-and-Jarod-Minghini.html.

Cataloochee Ski Area

Cat is reporting an 18-32 inch base, same as yesterday’s report.  Cat reported yesterday that they are skiing on 6 runs ( Lower Omigosh, Rabbit Hill, Easy Way, Upper Over Easy, Over Easy and Beginner's Luck), supported by 2 lifts (Omigosh, Easy Way) and 1 conveyor on Beginner’s Luck.

Sugar Mountain

Sugar is reporting an 8-33 inch base, up 1 inch from yesterday.  Sugar is also running with their same configuration, 2 slopes – Upper Flying Mile and Lower Flying Mile, with one lift going 3/4 of the way up the mountain.

The weather will be warming up across the Southeast for the next couple of days which should hush the snow guns.

5 Day Banner Elk Weather

Snow making temperatures should return on Saturday night where there is a chance of snow for the Southeast Mountains.  The snow will begin to move into the area on Saturday with the West Virginia resorts seeing it first.

And finally, speaking of our West Virginia resorts – Snowshoe has laid down a sick amount of snow.  They are scheduled to open Wednesday, November 27th.
