Outdoor enthusiast, skier, snowboarder and telemark skier. Yes, I like to mix it up. While at the University of Colorado, Boulder I became an alternate athlete on the National Championship Ski team. I have had a passion for snow sports my whole life, and that fire continues to burn bright. I spent six years as an instructor at Hidden Valley ski area and loved sharing the gift of skiing and snowboarding with others.Since moving to Western NC I average about 30 days per year at the local mountains and I'm excited about being a part of the SkiSoutheast team.

“I may be sweet, but my sugar doesn’t melt!”

Today, I'll try and highlight how LITTLE one rain event impacts the base depths. Most of the resorts only experienced a 1-2" drop in their respective base depths, in the last 24 hours. I always think there is a little misconception that heavy rains, "wash...

Night train or Night rain?

Ahhh . . . night skiing under the stars, as the big full moon is peering up over the horizon. The sound of firm snow under-foot . . . it doesn't get any better. If you haven't experienced it, I urge you to do so.We...

Christmas Plus One

I really hope everyone has been enjoying the Holidays so far . . . I know I have been. For some, it's back to work today. For others . . . these are the days that memories are made. Our Canadian friends to the north...

Winter begins tonight @ 5:23pm . . . Ullr is coming!

Maybe it's almost the eerie way that the full (cold) moon lines-up with the the Winter Solstice this year, but I'll take it. Tonight, we are going to see some light to significant snow accumulations for just about everyone (sorry VA).Today we have to...

Peachy . . .

Let's be honest, usually, by this time of the year we have seen some temporary closings or "suspended ski operations", due to some warm spells, etc. But this year, everything is GENERALLY going as planned. Resorts operate better under these more predictable conditions. I am...

A bluebird day

As we see the last of the snowmaking opportunities fade away, it looks like we were left with a nice little period to recharge the resorts. Most of the guns are being turned-off, as we speak, and a bluebird day is the resounding word....

Cold air = Gold air

Late yesterday afternoon, through this morning, brought the first opportunity for some quality snowmaking, in quite some time. After the shakedown, it looked like about half the resorts (7) were able to make some snow, with the northern most resorts being able to leave...

The cold air arrives . . .

What a year it has been, so far. Just over the weekend, D.C. hit a milestone as 2018 is the wettest year on record . . . 61.34 inches of yearly rain fall (as recorded at Reagan National Airport). This isn't just isolated as...

A little gloom, but no doom . . .

Well, today isn't exactly the best day to pull images from the cameras, but it's still worth a look. In fact, according to our own Brad Panovich, it appears that we will have a nice turn around early to mid-next week. If you haven't had...

Base-depths are nearly bombproof

Last night put a little spell (temperature inversion) on just about every resort in the region. No worries though, because the base depths are nearly bombproof . . . for now.The extended forecast looks wet, in most places, so get some while you can!VA...
