Outdoor enthusiast, skier, snowboarder and telemark skier. Yes, I like to mix it up. While at the University of Colorado, Boulder I became an alternate athlete on the National Championship Ski team. I have had a passion for snow sports my whole life, and that fire continues to burn bright. I spent six years as an instructor at Hidden Valley ski area and loved sharing the gift of skiing and snowboarding with others.Since moving to Western NC I average about 30 days per year at the local mountains and I'm excited about being a part of the SkiSoutheast team.

Mucho Snow Incoming!

Last night a few resorts reported a healthy bit of snow with Snowshoe getting 2", while Canaan, Timberline, and Wisp all receiving about an inch. The other nicety is that probably 2/3 of the resorts that didn't receiving the natural stuff, made snow. Specifically, Cataloochee made...

George Washington declares . . . “Go skiing this weekend!”

Today/Tonight is the kick-off to the Presidents' Weekend celebration at all resorts in the region. It's a really nice time of the year to brush-off that 'cabin fever', as the days are getting noticeably longer and winter's chill is a little less harsh. That will...

Love your local ski resort Today!

Today could be called a 'manufactured' holiday . . . or . . . it could be a day to HIT THE SLOPES. However you look at it, it's gonna be a pretty awesome day all around.Just a touch of snowfall to report ....

Catching their breath

Some resorts are catching their breath for a minute before the onslaught of the 1-2 punch . . . V-Day and Presidents Weekend. By 'catch their breath', I mean just a couple of trail/tubing closures AND/OR taking advantage of this opportunity to make some high quality snow. Most...

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

Last night we saw just a trace of snow in only the northern most part of the region. That quickly turned though, as David Lesher of Canaan Mountain Snow writes, "Freezing rain and some sleet overnight as temperatures fell to 29F. Daylight showed a...

“If you don’t like the weather . . .

This weekend was a true southeast ski weekend, weather-wise. This includes sunshine, rain, fog, wintry mix, etc. . . sometimes all at the same time. I always wonder what a transplant from somewhere in Sunny Southern California thinks of when they move to the...

No more ‘Mayuarary’ . . . Cold temps return!

I suppose you could call the weather a little 'bipolar' lately, and you would be spot-on. Today sees the return of the 'polar' aspect of our regional roller coaster. Temps will really get cold as most of WV/Western MD will get into the single...

A little taste of spring

It was just one week ago that we saw record shattering low temps . . . remember -19.5F (-35F with the wind chill) last Thursday in the Canaan Valley. Well, today we will see record shattering high temps. It's expected to get up to...

Sunrise with Soft Snow

"Similar conditions to yesterday" is the quote of the day, as we haven't seen much change across the region. In a way, that isn't always a bad thing, as consistency in the snowsport industry is elusive.Today we will see unseasonably warm temps as nearly...

Our own ‘Haute Route’

In Europe, skiing has a rich history and tradition. Ski towns in the Alps are prolific, and before modern transportation, access from ski area to ski area was tricky. One of the most legendary town-to-town treks is called the Haute Route. Specifically, this epic goes from...
