Outdoor enthusiast, skier, snowboarder and telemark skier. Yes, I like to mix it up. While at the University of Colorado, Boulder I became an alternate athlete on the National Championship Ski team. I have had a passion for snow sports my whole life, and that fire continues to burn bright. I spent six years as an instructor at Hidden Valley ski area and loved sharing the gift of skiing and snowboarding with others.Since moving to Western NC I average about 30 days per year at the local mountains and I'm excited about being a part of the SkiSoutheast team.

March COULD BE the best month of the season

March continues to deliver as we are now one week into the month. You could easily make the case that we are seeing some of the best conditions of the year, nearly everywhere. AND, the forecast is turning more favorable vs. less than ideal.Last...

A Mardi Gras, March, Miracle Day!

We 'fumbled the ball' a little bit yesterday, but we are back in action today . . . And Boy, what . . . a . . . Day!There is a lot to catch up on, AND that is going to be the theme of the...

March comes ‘in like a Lion’

It's certainly not coming 'in like a lamb', as we turn the page to March. Overnight, the forecast held correct as Wisp and Canaan saw 3", respectively. Wisp is reporting a PACKED POWDER / Groomed base, which is definitely good conditions. Even Oglebay saw 2" as...

Goodbye (or Good Riddance) February

As we depart February and turn to March it's a good time to reflect on the month past. I think the general consensus is that the weather in February under-performed a little bit, but there were pockets of good snowfall and good temps to...

Surf ‘n Turf!

This is certainly beginning to be the time of the year where you can Ski/Ride in the morning AND another outdoor pursuit in the afternooon! . . . or Vice-a-VersaOvernight felt like a 'house divided' as temps in VA/MD were unseasonably cold overnight (low to...

Fair Weather Fans!

That WICKED WIND subsided late yesterday afternoon and everything was back to normal pretty quickly. The cold air continued to envelop the region last night with temps hovering about the same for two consecutive nights. Around ten resorts were able to lay down a...

A blue sky and blustery day

*Many resorts are on a Wind Hold this morning . . . see below for details* We are locked into some cold air and the (wonderful) return of snow making conditions. I counted 9 resorts that are currently, or did, make snow overnight. Even the...

On the Up-and-Up

I think there is this perception that after Presidents Day Weekend, things start to go flat. Had the weather not crushed most of NC/TN this week, the argument could be made that that's just not the case. In fact, when you look at trail...

“We will take what we can get!”

Yesterday, I foreshadowed something at Wisp . . . if you get stuck up on the mountain this evening, “Don’t forget to stop in Wispers Bar & Grill to try our famous Maryland Crab Poutine.” Well, that kind of happened as Wisp got inundated with Winter Weather...

Powder Daze!

The Winter Storm (Petra) delivered as most resorts saw the wintry mix beginning yesterday late-afternoon/early evening. Wintergreen and Hot Springs (a.k.a. Homestead) saw the heaviest and quickest accumulations forming with 6" being reported at both places! Massanutten saw 3+" (with more snow falling today, likely),...
