August 16 Morning Report

I’m still working remotely this morning from beautiful, Blacksburg, Virginia. If you want to test your ability to remain patient under extreme conditions – try a “move in” day at a large college campus. Virginia Tech does a really nice job of managing the experience as well as possible, however when you put thousands of people on a campus where parking is already at a premium…it is a recipe for a mad house.

Such was Wednesday.

So this morning I spent some time looking at various webcams around the area and I did catch some high-level fog atop Sugar Mountain, via the Sugar Ski & Country Club camera. (In fact, there still is some as of this writing.)

I looked at the Grandfather Mountain View Cam and it was a gorgeously, clear morning across that ridge.

I checked in with Matt Laws, who does his morning drive from Tennessee, and he also reported only the lightest of fog on his way in.

He agreed with my assessment that we should not call this a foggy morning.

(The photo at the beginning of this post is of the Mast Store in Valle Crucis taken on such a pretty day as this, but some time back. I simply pulled one from our archives.)

So as of this morning, we’ll call it 12 for 16.

Here is the morning by morning report:

Totals: 12 for 16 (and only sharing the latest dailies)
Aug 16: A gorgeous, blue sky day in the mountains.
Aug 15: Yet another very foggy morning along Broadstone Road in Valle Crucis.
Aug 14: Foggiest morning of August thus far. Yep more than Monday.
Aug 13: Foggiest morning of August thus far.
Aug 12: Clear around the region except dense fog that settled in the valle.
Aug 11:Very foggy from atop Echota, near Foscoe and Seven Devils
