Powder is Back In The Snow Reports
02.26.14 07:48 AM
Mother Nature did not let us down, and as expected dropped some snow on our northern neighbors yesterday, last night, and right now! Here’s the damage…
Canaan Valley: 5”
Canaan Valley, Timberline, and Wisp are all under Winter Weather Advisories until 1pm today. This all bodes well for the SkiSoutheast trip to Snowshoe this weekend. Hey – did you guys know we’re heading to Snowshoe this weekend?!
It appears that except for Beech Mountain, the forecast for snow down here in North Carolina has been lifted. The good news is that for the remainder of the week it will get below freezing at night and warm up into the high 30s and low 40s during the day.
We, or at least I did and I see there’s a similar discussion on the boards, questioned whether or not the resorts would turn on their guns if it got cold enough. We are getting near the end of the season (it hurts to say that out loud) and the resorts have plenty of base right now and enough surplus to move around if need be. Well, our question has been answered. Appalachian, Cataloochee, Ober, and The Homestead are all making snow as I type.
This is great news! The resorts are feeling comfortable enough to spend the money and make some fresh snow. It also means that they are confident that the weather will cooperate so they can keep their investment on the slopes as long as possible.
I’ve got some news to share coming out of Ober this morning. Ober Gatlinburg will start selling their 2014/15 season pass at a reduced rate starting March 1st. Next year’s pass is $274 when purchased March 1st through the end of season. Plus, whenever you do buy, you get to ski the remainder of this season as well. I love these deals!
While we are on the tail end of the ski season, we do have about another month or more of skiing and riding left. Appalachian anticipates going through the end of March, while Snowshoe has already extended their season to April 10th! There is still plenty of opportunity to get turns in. Plus, Spring skiing offers up its own unique joys that I am looking forward to (but not too quickly).
Take care out there today!
