The Southeast and Mid-Atlantic Hills are Alive
11.30.13 02:24 PM
What a crazy couple of days it has been. The Southeast and Mid-Atlantic skiing and riding season is upon us in a big way. Just think, the beginning of the month it was raining (when we were skiing last year) and now we have more resorts open than ever before in November – from Maryland down to Tennessee. The 2013/14 ski season is definitely coming in like a lion!
This is how Wintergreen looks this morning. >>>
Kudos to all of the resorts for taking the risk to blow snow and give us some of the best opening conditions we’ve seen in a very long time. Sugar, Cataloochee, and Appalachian (to name just a few I’m sure) all opened this year with more snow on the ground than ever before. Ober’s November opening is its first since 1989. Winterplace had their earliest opening ever yesterday (last year they opened on December 23rd), and our friends at Wolf Ridge came out of nowhere and are opening today as well.
In addition to the new openings – Sugar, Cataloochee, Appalachian, and Snowshoe are all opening more runs every day.
This might just be the mimosas talking, but with all the resorts coming online it reminds me of the end of the movie Grease when the whole gang is together again and they decide the best way to celebrate is with song and dance.
Turn it up, it grows on you. Who out there does not want to sing and dance right now – I know I’m having a hard time keeping calm enough to write this report.
A quick look at the message boards (jamsandwich has a great trip report from Sugar) and net and one is quick to realize that you guys are taking full advantage of our incredible start to the season in a big way. It is going to be another spectacular day to get outside as the skies will be clear and blue with reasonable temps. It just does not get any better than this as a Southeast skier or rider!
Keep the trip reports coming and enjoy the remainder of the holiday weekend. Let’s hope that this is a good sign for what we can expect for the remainder of the year.
